IA COVID-19 (10-a.m.) update for 9/8/2020: 6 more deaths, hospitalizations & recoveries increase

Six more people have died from complications of COVID-19 since 10-a.m. Monday, for a total of 1,170, and 345 new Positive cases of the virus have been confirmed, for a total of 70,659. The smaller case numbers are due to no testing on Labor Day. Hospitalizations are on the rise. The Iowa Department of Public Health says 15 more people are in a hospital with COVID-19 symptoms, for a total of 326. Seven fewer patients are in Intensive Care (92), and 10 more patients were admitted (41), and two more patients are on a ventilator (37). Long-Term Care Facility (LTC) outbreaks are down one to 28. IDPH reported 792 positive cases and 362 recoveries within those facilities, as compared to 804 and 367 respectively, Monday.

In western/southwest Iowa: 12 patients are hospitalized with COVID-19 (1 more than Monday); 6 are in an ICU (down 1 from Monday), 1 person was admitted, and three patients are on ventilators. Here in the KJAN listening area, Adair and Guthrie Counties each have an additional positive case of the virus reported since Monday, for a total of 51 and 182, respectively, and there are two more cases in Pottawattamie County. Five counties are reporting a slight increase in the number of persons who have recovered from the virus: Adair; Guthrie; Montgomery; Pottawattamie and Madison.

The IDPH says to-date, 819 persons with preexisting conditions have died from COVID-19 complications, with 629 deaths reported at LTC’s. There have been a total of 50,371 persons who have recovered from the virus and 2,364 additional negative test results processed since Monday, for a total of 601,435 since testing began. A total of 673,614 individuals have been tested for COVID-19. The combined 14-day positivity rate is 10.5%.

Here are the latest positive case numbers for southwest/western Iowa (County; Positive Case #’s; number of persons who have (recovered); {deaths since the outbreak began}.

  • Cass County: 118 cases; (107); 2 deaths
  • Adair County: 51 cases; (34); 1 death
  • Adams County: 23 cases; (17)
  • Audubon County: 41 cases; (28); 1 death
  • Guthrie County: 182 cases; (139); 5 deaths
  • Montgomery County: 83 cases; (74); 5 deaths
  • Pottawattamie County: 1,722 cases; (1,462); 34 deaths
  • Shelby County: 224 cases; (211); 1 death.
  • Madison County, 172; (133); 2 deaths
  • Harrison County, 157 cases; (137); 2 deaths

Red Oak man arrested for Assault/Impeding air flow Tue. morning

Red Oak Police arrested 19-year old Tristan Leigh Gauthier, of Red Oak, at around 4:15-a.m. today (Tuesday). The man was arrested in the 1600 block of Summit Street, for Domestic Abuse Assault/1st offense, by impeding air flow. Gauthier was being held without bond in the Montgomery County Jail.

Offensive line a key for Iowa State

(Radio Iowa) – Iowa State is hoping for a young offensive line to jell as the Cyclones prepare for Saturday’s opener against Louisiana. Colin Newell returns after battling injury for much of last season.

That’s ISU coach Matt Campbell who likes the potential of the offensive line.

Quarterback Brock Purdy says the new starters have been waiting for their chance.

Red Oak man arrested Tue. morning on assault & other charges

Police in Red Oak report 26-year old Logan Samuel Cashatt, of Red Oak, was arrested on a trio of charges early this (Tuesday) morning. Cashatt faces charges that include Domestic Assault with a weapon/1st offense, Obstruction of Emergency Communications, and Theft in the 4th Degree. He was taken into custody at a residence in the 1700 block of Jay Avenue at around 1:50-a.m., and transported to the Montgomery County Jail, where he was being held without bond. Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputies assisted in the arrest.

BERNICE M. MUNDORF, 98, of Exira, died Monday, Sept. 7th, at the Exira Care Center. Funeral services for BERNICE M. MUNDORF will be held on Saturday, September 12th at 11:00 a.m. at Hockenberry Funeral Home in Atlantic.

Visitation will be held Saturday, September 12th from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to services at the funeral home.

Burial will follow the services at the Atlantic Cemetery on Saturday.

DIANN SCHULTE TAYLOR, 69, of Atlantic (Formerly of Red Oak), died Sunday, Sept. 6th, at Atlantic Specialty Care. Memorial services for DIANN TAYLOR will be held on Saturday, September 12th at 10:00 a.m. in the United Church of Christ in Atlantic. Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Atlantic has the arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Burial will be in the St. Boniface Cemetery in Westphalia.

ELAINE KOLL, 91, of Atlantic, died Monday, Sept. 7th, at Atlantic Specialty Care. Funeral services for ELAINE KOLL will be held 1:30-p.m. Friday, Sept. 11th, at the Peace United Church of Christ, in Walnut. Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Atlantic has the arrangements.

Prior to the funeral, donuts & coffee will be served from 1-until 1:30-p.m. at the church. Elaine started her day this way, many times.
