Atlantic excited for big District game at Des Moines Christian

Sports

September 25th, 2020 by admin

The Atlantic Trojans (3-1) football team is excited for a big District road game at Des Moines Christian (2-0) this week. The Trojans are riding a three game win streak and are coming off a gritty 7-0 win over Clarinda last week. Atlantic Head Coach Mike McDermott said the team has talked about this being a big game.

Des Moines Christian has been off the past two weeks with some COVID-19 issues amongst the team so it will be interesting to see if the Lions have any rust to shake off. The Lions have a nice quarterback in Jaxon Withers who has completed 47% of his passes and thrown five touchdowns in their two games so far. Coach McDermott said keeping track of him and putting some pressure on will be big keys for the Trojan defense.

Atlantic has had some mixed results on offense. They have shown some great flashes at times but penalties and turnovers last week made it tough to put complete drives together. Coach McDermott said they will need to clean some of those mistakes up but he is confident they are on the right track.

Listen to the full interview with Coach McDermott on Trojan Preview Friday afternoon at 4:45 p.m. on KJAN. The Trojans and the Lions are set for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff in Des Moines on Friday night.
