IHSAA Statement: June 21, 2023

Sports

June 22nd, 2023 by Asa Lucas

The Iowa High School Sports Network (IHSSN) is the current media rights holder for select IHSAA championship events. IHSSN has recently announced it has adopted a new model that would charge the public to watch certain live events.

IHSSN plans to begin charging for live streaming with the 2023 IHSAA State Baseball Tournament in July. The network has previously provided the public with free access to championship events via television and other formats.

IHSAA has objected to the IHSSN’s plans to charge the public and earlier today filed a Petition for Declaratory Relief in Polk County District Court seeking, among other things, a declaration from the court as to the rights of the parties with respect to charging fees to the public under the relevant media rights agreement.

Moving forward, IHSAA will continue to strive for free public access to broadcasts of its championship events.

June 21st, 2023 by Asa Lucas

(Atlantic, Iowa) – Tomorrow night Missy Goergen will be inducted into the Atlantic High School Softball Hall of Fame. She played for the Trojans from 1986-1990 and had a prolific career full of awards and honors. Including being a 4-year letter winner, all state honorable mention of all classes, first team all-district, first team all-conference, led the team in triples and stolen bases, and batted over 400.

Softball and athletics have always been a part of Missy’s life. Looking back her family was a big part of why she started playing softball.

When talking about her career, it wasn’t the walk off plays she remembered. But the passion from her teammates and the early opportunities as an 8th grader.

While discussing the significance of being honored in the Softball Hall of Fame Missy was humbled. However, she recognized that she couldn’t have achieved as must athletic success if it wasn’t for her teammates and coaches.

Atlantic Coach Terry Hinzmann, his staff, and players will recognize Missy Worth Goergen before Thursday’s game with Harlan at 7:30pm.
