CRESCO, Iowa (AP) — A northeast Iowa man has been accused of stealing from a woman for a second time. A Howard County trial is scheduled to begin Oct. 30 for Justin Hoehn, of Lawler. He’s pleaded not guilty to theft and identity theft. He’s accused of making unauthorized charges to a Cresco woman’s checking account, getting more than $3,000.

Station KIMT reports that Hoehn was convicted of making unauthorized charges to the same woman’s credit card and got two years of probation in 2016.

Police in Red Oak arrested a woman late Monday night. 18-year old Hannah Marie Leigh, of Red Oak, was arrested at around 11:52-p.m. for Public Intoxication. She was being held in the Montgomery County Jail on a $300 bond.

Officers found a suspect nearby and as the matter was unfolding, an officer was struck multiple times. The weapon was later determined to be a BB gun. The officer also fired his gun and hit the suspect. Both were in stable condition at a hospital.

HARPERS FERRY, Iowa (AP) — A northeast Iowa farmer has died after being attacked by a bull. Allamakee County Sheriff Clark Mellick says someone called authorities Sunday to report the attack at a farm pasture northwest of Harpers Ferry. First responders found the body of 59-year-old John Francis Conway in a wooded pasture area. Deputies determined a bull had attacked him Saturday night. Deputies killed the bull because of its aggressive behavior.

DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) — A Dubuque woman accused of stealing from her elderly mother has pleaded guilty. The Telegraph Herald reports that 55-year-old Susan Shea pleaded guilty to felony abuse of a dependent adult. Her sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 16. A court document says investigators estimate that around $140,000 or more had been taken from Shea’s mother from December 2016 through January 2018.

PERCIVAL, Iowa (AP) — A third bout of flooding is taking a toll on people who operate businesses along Highway 2 in southwestern Iowa. They rely on Interstate 29 traffic and on travelers being able to cross a nearby Missouri Bridge over to Nebraska. But roadways leading to their community were covered with water and the businesses were inundated in mid-March after levees failed. More flooding occurred in late May. One business owner, Alicia Chrastil, who also was flooded out in 2011, doesn’t see herself returning.

The 2019 Cass County Fair Livestock shows culminated with the Grand Champion Beef Selection at the outdoor show ring Monday night. Hannah Carlson took the Overall Supreme Market Animal honor.

Carlson is a member of the Pymosa 4-H Club and her Grand Champion 4-H Market Steer weighed in at 1,373 pounds. With the Overall championship she will advance to the Best of the West District Show in Denison.

Hannah is the daughter of Mike and Pat Carlson.

Jace Thomsen showed the Overall Reserve Supreme Market Animal with his market steer. He will also advance to the Best of the West District Show.

Thomsen is the son of Jeff and Rana Thomsen.

The officer also fired his gun and hit the suspect. Both were taken to a hospital, where they were reported to be in stable condition.

Police in Creston said there were no injuries and no citations issued following a chain reaction collision Monday afternoon. Authorities say a 2013 Chevy Camaro driven by 22-year old Joshua Reed, of Creston, was stopped heading northbound at the stoplights for the intersection of Sumner and Adams Streets in Creston. A 2014 Ford Fusion driven by 33-year old Ashlee Nelson, of Greenfield, was directly behind the Camaro, and also came to a complete stop.

A 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis driven by 52-year old Camilla Walters, of Mt. Ayr, was traveling northbound, when the woman mixed-up the gas and brake pedals. As a result, her car struck the Ford, which in-turn hit the Camaro.

Damage from the collisions amounted to $4,300.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office says no injuries were reported following an accident at happened at around 3:30-p.m. Monday, west of Red Oak. Officials say a 2014 Ford F-150 pickup owned by MidAmerican Energy, and driven by 57-year old Raymond Flick, of Red Oak, was stopped on Highway 34 eastbound at a bridge construction traffic light.

A 2002 Pontiac Grand Am owned and operated by 80-year old Michael Wingett, of Omaha, was eastbound on Highway 34 and failed to get completely stopped prior to hitting the rear of the pickup.

Damage to the vehicles amounted to $4,000. Wingett was cited for failure to have insurance. Sheriff’s Deputies were assisted at the scene by Red Oak Police.

(Radio Iowa) — A Rock Valley man has died after being injured in an ATV accident over the weekend in northwest Iowa’s Lyon County. Authorities say the accident occurred at the intersection of 6th Avenue and Main Street in Doon around 3:30 Saturday afternoon when 25-year-old Jacob Soodsma is said to have fallen off the back of an ATV operated by 27-year-old Joseph Keegan of Rock Rapids as it entered the intersection from a private residence. Soodsma was taken to an area hospital before being airlifted to Sanford Health Systems in Sioux Falls where he died from injuries. The incident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol and the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.

Washington, D.C. – Third District Representative Congresswoman Cindy Axne today (Monday) announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grant program has awarded over $4.8 million to Des Moines International Airport and Guthrie County Regional Airport. Des Moines International received an additional $1.68 million, in addition to the $10.3 million they received in June, as part of the Federal Aviation Administration’s Runway Incursion Mitigation Program to enhance safety at the airport. Guthrie County Regional Airport received nearly $3.15 million to fund runway reconstruction projects.

Axne says “The continued support our local airports receive from the Federal Aviation Administration is instrumental to Iowa’s efforts to develop and repair vital infrastructure to improve safety and development.
