AMES, Iowa (AP) – Iowa State coach Paul Rhoads says he’s grateful that schools like Texas and Oklahoma appear to be working on staying in the Big 12.  Rhoads said Wednesday that he’s happy with the direction the beleaguered conference appears to be heading and what that means for his program.  Rhoads’s comments came one day after the Pac-12 squashed any hope of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas and Texas Tech joining the conference, which could have been a deadly blow to the Big 12.  Rhoads says the Big 12 is a “pretty good” football conference and a strong one overall.  Iowa State spokesman Steve Malchow told The Associated Press Wednesday that athletic director Jamie Pollard declined to comment on the Big 12 situation.

     FARGO, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota State has added to its list of Football Bowl Subdivision opponents in upcoming seasons. Athletic Director Gene Taylor says the Bison will travel to Iowa to open the 2016 season.  Taylor confirmed the game to The Forum newspaper and WDAY-TV just days before the Bison travel to take on Minnesota. NDSU is
getting $350,000 for the Gophers game. The school is guaranteed $500,000 for the Hawkeyes game.  NDSU is a Football Championship Subdivision school. Future FBS
opponents include Colorado State next season, Kansas State in 2013 and Iowa State in 2014. All are road games for the Bison.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – The Kansas City Chiefs have officially placed running back Jamaal Charles on season-ending injured reserve and promoted wide receiver Jeremy Horne from the practice squad. Charles tore the ACL in his left knee in the first quarter of Sunday’s 48-3 loss to the Detroit Lions. He is the third Chiefs player to sustain the injury in recent weeks. Tight end Tony Moeaki went down in their preseason finale and Eric Berry in a season-opening loss to Buffalo. Coach Todd Haley said Monday that he expected Charles to go on IR and the team made the move official Wednesday. The Chiefs also announced they signed offensive lineman Lucas Patterson to fill Horne’s place on the practice squad. Horne played in three games for Kansas City last season.

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State has sold more season football tickets this season than any other year in the history of the institution.

Through Wednesday, the school had sold 37,446 season tickets and orders continue to come in. The previous record was 36,610 in 2007.

“It has been non-stop in the athletics ticket office,” Director of Athletics Jamie Pollard said. “The team’s great start has also ignited single-game and mini-pack sales this past week.”

This fall’s season ticket number is nearly 6,000 more than last year, a remarkable 18.3 percent increase. The Cyclones’ opening two home games drew the second (56,085 vs. Iowa) and fourth-largest (55,481 vs. UNI) crowds in Jack Trice Stadium history.

“We have already sold more than 53,000 tickets for our game against Texas (Oct. 1),” said Pollard.  “Fans wanting tickets to the Texas game better act quickly because we expect to sell out in the next several days.”

Iowa State is on a pace to average more than 50,000 fans per home game this season. The Cyclones’ current home attendance average is ranked 35th nationally. That mark is higher than seven schools in the Big East, eight schools in the Pac-12, seven schools in the ACC and five schools in the Big Ten.

Comments from Coach Chris Janhke:    We struggled to find our rhythm from the start tonight. We came out flat and it was a struggle in each game. We had early deficits in each of the first 4 games that seemed to make us play cautious and tentative the entire match. I did not think that we served or hit as aggressive as we have up to this point. Shenandoah played a scrappy game and did well at converting the easy things we sent their way into points. We did not play to our potential tonight. We must find a way to be more mentally prepared for our opponents. We will be addressing these areas in practice the rest of this week. The team will be participating in the Nevada tournament this coming Saturday.

AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State women’s basketball team will have 23 games broadcast on television or over the internet this season, including four nationally by ESPN2 and FSN.  Mediacom will televise an additional seven games.

All of the Cyclones’ home games, excluding the nationally televised FSN game against Texas Tech on Jan. 22, will be available on the Clone Zone at cyclones.com.

Iowa State is still awaiting game times for road contests at Michigan (Dec. 4), Missouri (Feb. 8) and Oklahoma State (Feb. 25).
