CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) – Seth Tuttle scored 14 points on 7-of-9 shooting, and Northern Iowa never trailed Tuesday in beating Western Carolina 59-39 as part of the South Padre Invitational. Tuttle was the only player in double figures for the Panthers (3-1), who led by as many as 35 points. Jake Koch had nine points and nine rebounds, plus four blocks, three assists and three steals. Harouna Mutombo led Western Carolina (2-3) with 21 points, and Trey Sumler had 10, but they were the extent of their team’s offense. The Catamounts shot just 30 percent (14 for 47) from the field. Northern Iowa scored its last points on a three-point play by Tyler Lange with 7:20 to play. Western Carolina then went on a 15-0 run, with all the points scored by Mutombo and Sumler, to close the game. The Catamounts’ 39 points were the fewest allowed by Northern Iowa since the 2002-03 season.
