CEDAR FALLS, IA – Saturday, November 19, the Board of Control of the Iowa High School Athletic Association adopted changes for the State Wrestling Finals ticket distribution system.

The State Wrestling Championship has been a sold out event for over 20 years and is the only IHSAA reserved ticket event.  All other state championship events are general admission only.  The Board of Control believes that with other changes occurring to the state wrestling tournament format now is the time to automate the ticketing process for the finals.  The new process will allow schools and the public to choose the best available seats.

Under the new ticketing system, schools will have the first opportunity to purchase tickets either online or at the Wells Fargo Arena Box office.  The order limit will be 40 tickets.  Following the sale of tickets to the schools, the general public will have an opportunity to purchase tickets online, at Wells Fargo Arena Box office, or at Dahl’s Stores in Ames and Des Moines.  Order limit will be 6 tickets.

The Athletic Association sent complete information regarding the ticketing change for state wrestling finals to school administrators and to people who received wrestling finals tickets in 2011 the week of November 21, 2011.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — The mayors of Omaha and Council Bluffs, Iowa, have settled a friendly wager over the Nebraska-Iowa football game. To mark the Cornhuskers’ 20-7 win over the Hawkeyes on Friday, Council Bluffs Mayor Tom Hanafan, his staff and Habitat for Humanity in Council Bluffs will build a house in Omaha. Omaha Mayor Jim Suttle says Monday the construction will start Dec. 17 – and he and Omaha volunteers will lend a hand. Suttle will also collect household items for a family moving into a Habitat for Humanity house in Council Bluffs on Dec. 10.

The mayors placed the bet on Nov. 18 on the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge over the Missouri River. If Iowa had won, Suttle would have headed to Council Bluffs to build a house.

Officials with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources say the bobcat quota has been filled and the season is closed, as of 11 a.m., today (Monday). There is a grace period for trappers to report any animals to a conservation officer and receive their proper tags.  The grace period officially ends at midnight Nov. 29th.  The grace period only applies to trappers to allow time to move their traps from areas likely frequented by bobcats.  Hunters are not allowed a grace period. 

Bobcats trapped after the grace period must be turned over to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

IRVING, Texas- Iowa State junior guard Chris Babb was named Big 12 Rookie of the Week by the league office this morning. He was selected as this week’s best Big 12 newcomer by a select panel of media covering the league.
A native of Arlington, Texas, Babb averaged 15.3 points and 4.3 3-pointers in three Iowa State victories during the week. Babb shot 52.0 percent from 3-point range (13-25) and grabbed 5.0 rebounds, as Iowa State went undefeated at the South Padre Island Invitational.
Babb capped off the week by scoring a career-high 26 points behind a career-high seven 3-pointers in a 90-63 Cyclone win over Rice. Babb was 8-of-13 from the field, 7-of-11 from beyond the arc and recorded a career-high three steals vs. the Owls.
Babb, who was named to the South Padre Island Invitational All-Tournament team, has made two or more 3-pointers in all six games and ranks fourth nationally in 3-pointers per game at 3.8.
Babb is the second Cyclone to earn Big 12 Rookie of the Week honors this year. Royce White was the recipient of the honor on Nov. 14.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – Ben Roethlisberger threw a short touchdown pass to Weslye Saunders and the Pittsburgh Steelers took advantage of four turnovers by Tyler Palko to beat the Kansas City Chiefs 13-9 on Sunday night. Playing with a broken thumb on his throwing hand, Roethlisberger was 21 of 31 for 193 yards and an interception for the Steelers (8-3), whose defense lost All-Pro safety Troy Polamalu to an injury in the first quarter yet still kept the bumbling Chiefs (4-7) from scoring a touchdown.

Kansas City hasn’t reached the end zone since the third quarter against Denver three weeks ago, a span of 45 offensive drives – including the final one Sunday night. The Chiefs marched across midfield to the Pittsburgh 37 when Palko dropped back to pass. He was looking for Dwayne Bowe but threw it high and behind him, and Keenan Lewis hauled in the interception with 29 seconds left to seal the game and keep Pittsburgh tied atop the AFC North with Baltimore.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Rayvonte Rice had 22 points to lead four Drake players scoring in double figures in a 73-49 victory against Cal State Northridge on Saturday. Ben Simons added 14 points and Kurt Alexander and Jordan Clarke 11 each for the Bulldogs (4-2). Stephan Hicks and Josh Greene scored 10 points each for the Matadors (1-4). Hicks had eight rebounds. A 17-3 run during a 5:18 stretch of the first half gave Drake permanent control of the game. Rice had seven points during the surge, which culminated with his layup that gave the Bulldogs a 31-16 lead with 6:05 remaining in the half.

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas (AP) – Chris Babb scored 26 points and Tyrus McGee added 17 as Iowa State defeated Rice 90-63 in the South Padre Island Invitational on Saturday night. Chris Allen and Scott Christopherson scored 10 points each for the Cyclones (5-1). Melvin Ejim had eight points and 11 rebounds. Tamir Jackson scored 13 points and Lucas Kuipers 11 for the Owls (4-2). Allen’s 3-pointer with 13:30 remaining in the first half commenced a 13-0 run that gave the Cyclones permanent control of the game. McGee ended the surge with consecutive 3-pointers, the second giving Iowa State a 26-16 lead. The Cyclones led by 29 points in the second half.
