DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Iowa State says it is entering into a five-year partnership with Mediacom to distribute programming from Cyclones.tv across Iowa and bordering states. Cyclones athletic director Jamie Pollard says the agreement paves the way for a fully dedicated Iowa State sports channel on Mediacom’s cable television network. No date has been set for that channel’s launch.
Mediacom says it will televise roughly 75 Iowa State games a year, including a football game and 5-10 men’s basketball games. The programming will be produced by Cyclones.tv, Iowa State’s in-house broadcaster, and also include coaches’ shows and live media conferences. It’s believed that Iowa State would join Texas and BYU as the only schools with a channel dedicated to their athletic teams
Financial terms of the agreement have yet to be disclosed.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – A person familiar with the arrangements says a memorial service for Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher is planned for Wednesday afternoon. The team moved up its practice schedule Wednesday so players could attend a 2 p.m. memorial service for Belcher at the Landmark International Deliverance and Worship Center in Kansas City. The source who spoke to The Associated Press requested anonymity because the person wasn’t authorized to discuss the event.
The source said the memorial service is not open to the public. Other details of the service aren’t known. Belcher shot Perkins at their home Saturday morning before driving to Arrowhead Stadium, where he committed suicide in the practice facility’s parking lot.
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Aaron White tied his season high with 21 points as Iowa beat South Dakota 87-63 on Tuesday night. Devyn Marble added 14 points and eight rebounds for the Hawkeyes (7-2), who pulled away from the Coyotes with a 15-0 run at the end of the first half. Trevor Gruis scored 16 points to lead South Dakota (4-5).
Iowa controlled the interior with 54 points in the paint and a 50-31 rebounding margin. South Dakota nailed nine 3-pointers, including 5 of 8 to start the game. The Hawkeyes finished 2 of 16 from outside. Iowa native Casey Kasperbauer scored 14 points, making 4 of 8 from 3-point range for the Coyotes. Mike Gesell scored 12 points for Iowa. Adam Woodbury chipped in 10 points.
AMES, Iowa (AP) — Point guard Korie Lucious scored a season-high 17 points, Tyrus McGee added 16 off the bench and Iowa State beat Florida Gulf Coast 83-72 on Tuesday night. Melvin Ejim chipped in with 14 points and 12 rebounds for the Cyclones (6-2), who’ve won two in a row ahead of Friday’s showdown in Iowa City with the rival Hawkeyes.
Iowa State pushed a slim halftime lead to 62-46 early in the second half and went on a late 15-4 run to put the Eagles out of reach. Chase Fieler had a game-high 18 points to lead Florida Gulf Coast (6-4), which had won two in a row.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Nearly 60,000 deer in Iowa have been harvested so far this year. The state Department of Natural Resources said Tuesday that the count for the end of the first shotgun season is on par with last year. The agency says five hunters were injured during this shotgun season. About 65,000 hunters are expected to participate in the state’s second shotgun season, which begins Saturday and concludes in mid-December.
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — A person familiar with the situation tells The Associated Press that Wisconsin coach Bret Bielema (BEE’-leh-mah) has agreed to become the new coach at Arkansas.
Bielema will sign a multi-year contract soon, according to the person spoke Tuesday on condition of anonymity because the school had not yet made an official announcement.
The move was the second stunning hire at Arkansas, which brought in John L. Smith after firing Bobby Petrino earlier this year after a scandal in which Petrino hired his mistress to work in the football department.
Arkansas was 21-5 the last two seasons, but went 4-8 this season under Smith. Athletic director Jeff Long announced after the season that Smith would not return.
Bielema was 68-24 in seven seasons at Wisconsin, including an 8-5 mark this season. It’s not known yet if Bielema will coach the Badgers in the Rose Bowl. Wisconsin embarrassed Nebraska 70-31 in the Big 10 championship game Saturday.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – Police say the Kansas City Chiefs had been providing counseling to linebacker Jovan Belcher and his girlfriend before he killed her and committed suicide over the weekend. Police Sgt. Richard Sharp told The Kansas City Star that the couple had been arguing over relationship and financial issues for months and that the team had been “bending over backward” trying to help them.
Belcher fatally shot 22-year-old Kasandra Perkins at their Kansas City home Saturday before shooting himself in the head in the Arrowhead Stadium parking lot in front of team officials who were trying to stop him, including general manager Scott Pioli and head coach Romeo Crennel.
Sharp says Belcher reportedly thanked the men for their help but said “it was too late” before he killed himself.
