BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Cody Zeller overcame a sluggish start to score 22 points and Kevin “Yogi” Ferrell added a career-high 19 as No. 1 Indiana got past Iowa 73-60 on Saturday night. The Hoosiers (25-4, 13-3 Big Ten) rebounded from this week’s loss to Minnesota. But it was no typical night for Indiana’s shooters, who were 38.9 percent from the field and didn’t hit a 3-pointer until the final minute. But Indiana played defense and took care of the ball.

Iowa (18-11, 7-9) committed 14 of its 19 turnovers in the first half and shot just 38.2 percent from the field. Roy Devyn Marble scored 18 of his 20 points in the second half to lead Iowa, while Aaron White had 14. Indiana used an early 10-2 spurt and a 6-0 run to close the half to take a 26-14 halftime lead. Iowa couldn’t get closer than eight in the second half.

ISU is on the road at OK this afternoon/Hawkeyes taken on #1 IN tonight

The Iowa State Cyclones (19-9, 9-6 Big 12) returns to action when it plays at Oklahoma (18-9, 9-6) this afternoon. Tip-time at the Lloyd Noble Center is 12:45-p.m. The Cyclones are coming off a crushing OT loss to Kansas, though the Big 12 has acknowledged officiating mistakes that cost Iowa State dearly in the closing seconds. The Cyclones pounded the Sooners 83-64 in Ames earlier this season.

The Iowa Hawkeyes (18-10, 7-8 Big Ten) meanwhile, look to move to .500 in the Big Ten – and boost its NCAA tournament hopes – when it plays at No. 1 Indiana (24-4, 12-3) tonight at Assembly Hall. The Hoosiers beat Iowa 69-65 in the Big Ten opener for both teams. Indiana likely won’t overlook the Hawkeyes after losing at Minnesota on Wednesday. Pre-game coverage on KJAN begins at 5:30-p.m., with tip-off at 6:30.

KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP) — Joe Kelly opened his bid for a spot in the St. Louis Cardinals’ starting rotation with two hitless innings, and Adron Chambers hit a three-run homer in Friday’s 8-8 tie against the Houston Astros. Among three candidates to replace the injured Chris Carpenter in the Cards’ rotation, Kelly walked one hitter in each inning. Daniel Descalso and Pete Kozma had two hits and drove in two runs each for the Cardinals, who have won five straight.

Chris Carter homered for the Astros, a fifth-inning drive off closer Jason Motte. Brandon Barnes and Brandon Lair also homered for Houston. Houston starter Bud Norris struck out one and walked one in three innings, allowing Descalso’s two-run single in the second. With Houston trailing by two runs in the ninth, Brandon Laird homered off Victor Marte leading off and Rene Garcia singled with one out. After a throwing error by shortstop Ryan Jackson, pinch-runner Delino DeShields scored on Marte’s wild pitch.
