Drake drops non-conference game at No.11 North Dakota

(GODRAKEBULLDOGS) GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The Drake University football team dropped its final non-conference game Saturday as No. 11 North Dakota won 38-0 at the Alerus Center.

North Dakota (2-1) accumulated 527 total yards and overcame four lost fumbles and one interception forced by the Drake (1-2) defense. The Fighting Sioux’s defense limited the Bulldogs’ offense to just 163 total yards, intercepted three passes and held Drake to just six first downs with just two before the final quarter.

Sophomore quarterback Luke Bailey made his first career start in place of injured Ian Corwin. Bailey threw for 58 yards and had two interceptions. Cross Robinson rushed for 39 yards while Collin Howard had 39 receiving yards on two catches.

Drake starts its Pioneer Football League slate at home as Valparaiso will visit Sept. 25. Kickoff at Drake Stadium is scheduled for noon.

UNI dominates St. Thomas to move to 2-1

(UNIPANTHERS) CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — University of Northern Iowa football dominated St. Thomas in its home season opener, 44-3

UNI scored off the opening drive, and six Panthers found a way to score. UNI kept St. Thomas to just 26 rushing yards. On the UNI side, the offense was balanced, recording 193 yards in both receiving and rushing.

Benny Sapp III came up big with two interceptions, and Stefan Black II picked up a third for UNI.

UP NEXT:
UNI hosts Youngstown State for Homecoming.The Panthers are 24-9 against the Penguins. UNI shut out Youngstown 21-0 in their last meeting in Ohio on Feb. 27, 2021. Fans are encouraged to wear purple. Kickoff is 4 p.m. Oct. 2, and the game will be televised on ESPN+.

Red Oak man arrested Saturday evening

Red Oak Police, Saturday, arrested a local man for Public Intoxication. Authorities say 28-year-old Isaias Guerra, of Red Oak, was taken into custody at around 6:37-p.m. at West Market and Broadway Streets. He was transported to the Montgomery County Jail.

Iowa DNR investigating fatal incident at an eastern Iowa state park

BELLEVUE, Iowa – The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reports that at 4:21 a.m. today (Saturday), local authorities were notified about an individual who had fallen from a bluff at Bellevue State Park in the eastern Iowa community of Bellevue. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The situation continues to be under investigation by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and Division of Criminal Investigation.

The Jackson County Sheriff, Bellevue Police Department, Bellevue Fire Department and Maquoketa Police Department assisted with the incident.

Bellevue State Park remains open for visitors.

Atlantic Armory Open House features an Atlantic native/entrepreneur

(Atlantic, Iowa) – An event being held this Sunday in Cass County, will showcase the American Legion Memorial Building (formerly known as “The Armory”, 201 Poplar Street), in Atlantic. Everyone is invited to an Open House, where you can enjoy lunch, see a kitchen reveal and meet interesting people, such as Atlantic native and entrepreneur/inventor/marketer, “Cactus” Jack Barringer. He became internationally known for the Monster Arm Wrestling machine he invented. He has sold his products on QVC, Shark Tank and around the world. He continues to invent products and help others. He says he was raised not far from the American Legion building, and has fond memories of the area in a part of Atlantic called “Buck Town.”

His story includes one of struggling to overcome issues with learning.

Jack’s story of his inventions, include the Monster Arm Wrestling machine, and more.

During the Open House, he’ll talk about his experiences working with celebrities on the QVC Shopping Network, Shark Tank, and around the world.

The schedule for the day is as follows:

11:30 to 1:30 – Free will lunch

11:30 to 1:45 – All rooms open for touring

2 pm – Presentation by Cactus Jack

Lunch includes Mark Clark’s smoked pulled pork sandwiches. You can also take a look at the newly renovated kitchen. It is very large and can be rented for use by individuals and groups. Updated displays will be in the Military Museum, Military Library and Atlantic History Center. The drill floor will be open.

The event is sponsored by ARISE, Atlantic Rock Island Society Enterprise. The non-profit organization owns the American Legion Memorial Building and the Depot. There is no fee for the program. The building is handicapped accessible.

No. 5 Iowa hosts Kent State

(Radio Iowa) – Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says the defense will face a new challenge this week. The fifth ranked Hawkeyes host Kent State and will look to slow down an offense that spreads the field and plays hurry up.

Ferentz says the Golden Flashes offense won’t be intimidated.

Ferentz wants to offense to be more efficient on third down and more effective in the red zone.

No. 14 Iowa State visits UNLV

(Radio Iowa) – Iowa State coach Matt Campbell says there needs to be a sense of urgency as the 14th ranked Cyclones get ready for tonight’s (Saturday night’s) game at UNLV. The offense has struggled out of the gate and ISU is coming off a 27-17 loss to fifth ranked Iowa.

Campbell expects the Cyclones to bounce back with a god effort.

Campbell says the Cyclones need to find a way to make plays to take control of games.

Red Oak police report the arrest of Asher John Hinshaw on charges of OWI First Offense. Hinshaw was transported to the Montgomery County jail and is being held on $1000 cash bond.
