State Trooper’s funeral is today

(Radio Iowa) – The funeral for Iowa State Patrol Trooper Ted Benda, who died following an accident, is today (Wednesday) at 11:00 a-m at the Waukon High School. Iowa Congresswoman, Ashley Hinson, spoke about Benda’s death on the floor of the U-S House Tuesday. “This is a devastating loss of a father, husband, son, friend, mentor, and dedicated public servant who made it his life’s mission to keep his community safe in Iowa,” Hinson says. Hinson says Benda had deep roots in Waukon.

“This tragedy is a reminder that brave law enforcement officers often sacrifice for a purpose far greater than themselves,” she says. Hinson wrapped up her brief remarks with condolences to Benda’s family. “I join all Iowans in mourning the loss of Trooper Ted Benda and my heart is with his family, friends, and fellow troopers during this difficult time,” Hinson says. Benda’s squad car crashed on October 14th as he was on his way to assist the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office with a wanted suspect. He died six days later in the hospital.

Iowa State’s Matt Campbell previews West Virginia

(Radio Iowa) – Iowa State coach Matt Campbell says it will up to the leadership to help prevent a letdown this week. The 22nd ranked Cyclones climbed back into the Big 12 race with a win over Oklahoma State and now get set to visit West Virginia.

Campbell on the role of the team leaders.

A concern for the Cyclone defense is West Virginia running back Leddie Bell.

The Cyclones picked up a victory in their last visit to West Virginia but Morgantown is always a tough place to play.

Iowa’s Kirk Ferentz previews Wisconsin

(Radio Iowa) – Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says senior corner Riley Moss will not play in Saturday’s game at Wisconsin. Moss suffered a knee injury in the ninth ranked Hawkeyes’ October ninth win against Penn State and missed the loss to Purdue a week later.

Ferentz says a young offensive line needs to grow up for the stretch run. Iowa is only averaging 116 yards of rushing per game and just over three yards per carry.

That offensive line goes up against the top run defense in the Big Ten. The Badgers allow just over 53 yards on the ground per game.

Iowa beat the Badgers during the COVID shortened season 28-7 in Iowa City. It snapped Wisconsin’s four game winning streak in the series.

Wisconsin rushed for 342 yards last week in a win at Purdue. Ferentz says the Badgers combine ball control with the ability to hit big plays in the run game.

Red Oak Police report, 10/27/21

Police in Red Oak, Tuesday, arrested a man wanted on a warrant. Authorities say 58-year-old Rogelio Hernandez, of Red Oak, was arrested at around 5:10-p.m. on an active warrant for Driving While Barred. He was being held in the Montgomery County Jail on a $5,000 bond.

RICK D. BYBEE, 72, of Audubon (Celebration of Life gathering 10/30/21)

RICK D. BYBEE, 72, of Audubon, died Sunday, Oct. 24th, at Atlantic Specialty Care. A Celebration of Life Memorial Gathering for RICK BYBEE will be held from 3-until 6-p.m Saturday, Oct. 30th, at Vic’s Main Tap, in Audubon. Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon is assisting the family.

Distribution of cremains will be held at a later date.

RICK BYBEE is survived by:

His wife – Linda Bybee, of Audubon.

His daughter – Cheyenne Bybee, of Omaha.

His son – Charles Bybee

His sister – Cindy (Victor) Madsen, Jr., of Audubon.

Other relatives and friends.

Caitlin Clark named AP Preseason All-American

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa sophomore Caitlin Clark was named to the Associated Press Preseason All-America team on Tuesday.

Clark, who is the first Iowa Women’s Basketball player named a preseason AP All-American, is joined by Baylor’s NaLyssa Smith, UConn’s Paige Bueckers, Kentucky’s Rhyne Howard and South Carolina’s Aliyah Boston.

During her freshman campaign, the West Des Moines, Iowa, native averaged 26.6 points, 7.1 assists, and 5.9 rebounds per game in 30 games. Clark was named co-Freshman of the Year and first team All-America by The Athletic, USBWA, and WBCA, and second-team All-America by Associated Press, leading the nation in total assists (214), total points (799), points per game (26.6), field goals made (266) and 3-pointers made (116), and ranked second in assists per game (7.1) and 3-pointers per game (3.87).

Clark and the Hawkeyes open the 2021-22 season with an exhibition against Truman State on Nov. 4 at 6:30 p.m. (CT) inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Tickets are $5 for adults and admission is free for youth (18 & younger) and UI students.
