OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – Brittney Martin scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as fourth-seeded and 18th-ranked Oklahoma State pulled away late to beat Iowa State 67-57 in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 tournament on Saturday. The Cowgirls (23-7) face top-seeded and ninth-ranked Baylor in the semifinals on Sunday. Oklahoma State got 14 points each from Tiffany Bias and Brittany Atkins and Kendra Suttles, who was clutch off the bench down the stretch, had 11.
The Cyclones (20-10) tied the game at 52 with 8:45 to play but went cold. OSU used a 6-0 surge for separation and closed the game by hitting 6 of 8 free throws. Suttles scored seven straight points for the Cowgirls as they pulled away. Hallie Christofferson led Iowa State with 21 points and 11 rebounds and Nikki Moody had 14 points. ISU shot just 34 percent, going 7 for 25 from 3-point range.
Oklahoma State shot 50 percent and forced Iowa State into 16 turnovers.
JUPITER, Fla. (AP) – Trevor Rosenthal had a pain-free spring training debut and Michael Wacha pitched three effective innings for the St. Louis Cardinals in a 4-4 tie with a Washington Nationals split squad that was called after 10 innings Saturday.
Groin pain prompted the Cardinals to sideline Rosenthal for a few days this spring, but that wasn’t a problem Saturday. The hard-throwing closer said he’s nearly in regular-season form following his first Grapefruit League appearance. Wacha worked two perfect innings before allowing a run on two hits and a walk in the third.
Destin Hood’s three-run homer gave the Nationals a 4-1 lead in the eighth. St. Louis tied it with three in the bottom half, including Greg Garcia’s two-run single.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Katie Landhuis scored 21 points and top-ranked MOC-Floyd Valley survived a subpar game by star Alexis Conaway and beat No. 6 Unity Christian 63-57 Saturday night to win the Class 3A state championship. Unity Christian slowed Conaway with a box-and-1 defense in the all-Orange City final, but her teammates came through in a big way.
Emily McDonald scored 13 points for the Lady Dutch (26-1), while Bre Harmelink had 10 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Conaway, who scored a tournament record 46 points in a semifinal win over Mediapolis, wound up with nine points, five rebounds and four assists.
Kassidy DeJong led Unity Christian (22-5) with 25 points on 10-for-15 shooting. Sophomore Anna Kiel had 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

SAINT LOUIS, Mo. (AP) — Desmar Jackson had 23 points and 11 rebounds as sixth-seeded Southern Illinois squandered a 19-point second-half lead on Friday night, but held on to beat No. 3 seed Northern Iowa 63-58.
Anthony Beane added 16 points for SIU (14-18) which extended a 36-18 halftime lead to 43-24 early in the second half and was still leading 52-41 on Davante Drinkard’s jumper with 6:18 left. UNI (16-15) rattled off 11 straight points over the next three minutes to tie the game at 52.
But the Panthers never took the lead as Southern Illinois scored five straight to take the lead for good and UNI missed all five of its 3-point attempts in the final two minutes. Seth Tuttle had 15 points, 17 rebounds and four blocked shots for UNI. The victory advances the Salukis to the Missouri Valley Conference semifinals where they will face No. 2 seed Indiana State on Saturday (3/8).

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska football coach Bo Pelini has received a one-year contract extension through February 2019. Athletic department spokeswoman Chris Anderson on Friday confirmed the extension, which was first reported by CBSSports.com. Anderson said terms were not immediately available for release. Pelini is 57-24 in six seasons, but there was speculation about his job status at the end of last season as the Cornhuskers’ streak of no conference championships stretched to 14 years.
Minutes after Nebraska lost its last regular-season game, to Iowa, Pelini defended his record and said, “If they want to fire me, go ahead.” Athletic director Shawn Eichorst issued a statement of support for Pelini the next day, but as recently as Tuesday had refused to answer questions about a contract extension.
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Ally Disterhoft scored 10 of her 12 points in the final 5:38 as 23rd-ranked and fifth-seeded Iowa clawed back from the brink with a 24-11 closing run to upend No. 17, fourth-seeded Purdue 87-80 in a Big 10 quarterfinal Friday. The Hawkeyes (25-7) face eighth-seeded Ohio State (17-17) in a semifinal Saturday after the Buckeyes shocked No. 11 and top-seeded Penn State, 99-82.
Purdue (21-8) battled through seven ties and six lead changes in the first half to lead 39-35 at the break and appeared to be in control after halftime with Courtney Moses banging down 24 points. Iowa’s all-Big Ten selections Disterhoft, Samantha Logic and Bethany Doolittle were held to a combined seven points in the first half due to foul trouble but caught fire in the second. Doolittle finished with 16 and Logic 12.
Disterhoft scored six in an 8-1 run for a 71-70 lead Iowa never lost.
JUPITER, Fla. (AP) — Henderson Alvarez retired all nine batters he faced in his first start since pitching a no-hitter on the final day last season, leading the Miami Marlins to a 7-3 victory over a split Cardinals squad. Alvarez was slowed this spring by a shin infection. He hasn’t allowed a run since Sept. 24 or a hit in 12 consecutive innings.
Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright was equally efficient in his first start of spring training. Wainwright faced the minimum in two innings while striking out one. The right-hander needed only 25 pitches to get through the first two innings. Wainwright was slated to make his first appearance Thursday at Minnesota, but that game was rained out. He will pitch again Tuesday, working on three days’ rest, to get him back on track to start opening day.
The Marlins roughed up Lance Lynn for five runs in a third inning that featured doubles from Donovan Solano, Adeiny Hechavarria’s and Giancarlo Stanton.
