The 25th ranked Iowa Hawkeyes close their home schedule tonight (Monday night) by hosting Northwestern. The Hawks have won six of their last seven and are 10-7 in the Big Ten while the Wildcats are 6-12.

The UNI men are the top seed in this week’s Missouri Valley Conference Tournament in St. Louis. The Panthers closed the season with a thrilling 102-96 overtime victory over Loyola to earn their second regular season Valley title in three years.
The Panthers overcame a slow start to the season that saw them open with a 4-7 record.
The Panthers play Friday at Noon against the winner of Thursday’s game between Illinois State and Indiana State. After finishing in a three-way tie for second Drake is seeded third and will open Friday night against Southern Illinois
(Radio Iowa) – A bill to prohibit the state-run pension fund from owning stock in the parent company of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream has cleared the Iowa House and is scheduled for debate in the Senate today (Monday). In July, the founders of Ben and Jerry’s announced their ice cream would no longer be sold in disputed territories in Israel. Representative Carter Nordman, a Republican from Adel, was the bill’s floor manager in the House.
“The sole purpose of the ‘Boycott Israel’ movement is to economically destroy and cripple the State of Israel,” Nordman said. Nordman says 38 other states have taken similar steps to ban state pension funds from owning stock in Unilever. The company bought Ben and Jerry’s two decades ago, but agreed to continue the ice company’s social missions.
“This bill will ensure that our public investments are not funding companies that are participate in the boycott, divestment and sanction of Israel movement,” Nordman says. Representative Mary Wolfe, a Democrat from Clinton, says Ben and Jerry’s founders are respectfully disagreeing with Israeli policy. “This bill is…to bully a company, a small American company that’s owned by a British company for making a choice to refuse to participate in what they feel and what the UN has declared is an illegal occupation of Palestinian territory,” Wolfe says.

DES MOINES, IOWA – Megan Meyer, Grace Berg and Maggie Bair made sure their seniors went out on a winning note.
The three juniors combined for 50 points and helped the Drake University women’s basketball team rally for a 77-71 Senior Day victory over Bradley at the Knapp Center on Sunday afternoon.
Bradley jumped to a 14-point lead in the first half behind a flurry of 3-point baskets before the Bulldogs shut down the Braves over the final two quarters to win for the third straight time and keep alive the possibility of a .500 finish in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Drake improved to 15-12 overall and 7-9 in the league with two games remaining, both on the road. Bradley, losing at the Knapp Center for the 12th time in the last 13 visits, fell to 4-22 and 1-16 despite big games from freshman Caroline Waite and senior Tatum Koenig.
Seniors Maddie Petersen, Hannah Fuller and Allie Woolridge were honored in a postgame ceremony, the Bulldogs’ strong second half making it a much happier occasion. They outscored the Braves 45-27 over the final two quarters and held them to 23.3 percent shooting (7-for-30).
The Bulldogs wrap up the regular with games at Evansville next Thursday, March 3, and at Indiana State two days later.
(Audubon, Iowa) – Members of the Audubon School District’s Board of Education will hold a Special Session beginning at 7:30-a.m. Monday (Feb. 28), in their Board Room at the High School. The only action item on their agenda is the Board’s Opening Bargaining Proposal to the Audubon Education Association.

A cold shooting start and some frantic defense sunk the AHSTW Vikings in the Class 1A Substate 8 Final on Saturday night. West Harrison came out on top 59-55 at Thomas Jefferson High School to advance to their first ever State Tournament.
The Hawkeyes took control of the lead midway through the first quarter and ended the period on an 8-1 run to lead 15-7. West Harrison knocked down 3 three-pointers in the second and pushed the lead up to 31-16 by half. The Vikings started to find some offensive stride in the third but the Hawkeyes did enough to keep pace and held a 12 point lead heading to the fourth. AHSTW was able to get the lead down to single digits in the fourth but some timely shots and free throws preserved the Hawkeyes’ win. One of the big moments late came after AHSTW had cut the lead to 39-47 to get to a single digit deficit for the first time. Brady Melby then hit a three on the other end to take a little wind out of the Vikings’ sails.
West Harrison got 13 points from Koleson Evans, 12 from Mason McIntosh, and 11 from Mason King. The Hawkeyes improved to 22-3 on the season and punched their first ever ticket to the State Tournament. The only time part of the school district advanced to state was Moorhead’s appearances in 1949 and 1960.
AHSTW was led by 16 points from Raydden Grobe and 11 each from Kyle Sternberg and Brayden Lund. The Vikings end a terrific season with a record of 23-2. The Vikings fall shy of their first State trip and will say farewell to two seniors in Raydden Grobe and Jace Peterson.
(Winterset, Iowa) – A single-vehicle accident Sunday morning northeast of Winterset has claimed the life of a teenager, and resulted in injuries to two others and an adult. The Iowa State Patrol reports a 2003 GMC Sierra pickup driven by a 17-year-old, was traveling at excessive speeds northeast in the 2400 block of 195th Trail at around 2:30-a.m., Sunday, when the vehicle went out of control, entered a ditch and struck a tree. The driver, who was trapped, died at the scene.
Two passengers, 15- and 16-year-old, plus an 18-year-old, were transported by Madison County EMS to the Madison County Hospital, in Winterset. Their names were withheld pending notification of family.
Authorities said none of the crash victims were wearing seat belts, and that alcohol was suspected as a contributing factor in the accident. The Madison County Sheriff’s Office and Madison County EMS assisted the Patrol at the scene.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office reports a traffic stop just before 1-a.m., Saturday, resulted in the arrest of a man on a felony drug charge. Deputies arrested 60-year-old Jason Troy Waters, of Red Oak, for Possession of Methamphetamine with the Intent to Deliver, a Class-B felony. Waters was being held in the Montgomery County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
