Sports

November 11th, 2014 by Ric Hanson

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Chiefs have promoted running back Charcandrick West from the practice squad and signed tight end Phillip Supernaw after losing Cyrus Gray and Demetrius Harris to season-ending injuries. West signed with the Chiefs as a rookie free agent this season, and had spent nine weeks on their practice squad. Supernaw has played four games in two seasons with the Ravens and Texans, and has spent time on both practice squads.

Gray, a special teams standout, tore an ACL in Sunday’s victory in Buffalo. Harris broke a bone in his foot during pregame warmups before facing the Bills. Both were put on injured reserve. The Chiefs signed tight end Adam Schiltz to fill their open spot on the practice squad. Winners of four straight, Kansas City plays Seattle on Sunday.

Chiefs lose Gray, Harris to injuries vs Bills

Sports

November 10th, 2014 by Ric Hanson

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – The Chiefs have lost backup running back Cyrus Gray for the season with a torn knee ligament. Tight end Demetrius Harris is also sidelined with a broken foot. Chiefs coach Andy Reid confirmed that Gray, a special teams standout, will miss the rest of the season after tearing an ALC in the third quarter of Sunday’s 17-13 victory over Buffalo. Harris, a former basketball player in college, broke his foot during warmups prior to the game.

Reid said the rest of the team came out relatively healthy heading into Sunday’s showdown against the Super Bowl champion Seahawks. Running back Jamaal Charles had a neck stinger and tight end Anthony Fasano a bruised knee, but both would have been able to practice Monday.

Chiefs rally to 17-13 win over bumbling Bills

Sports

November 9th, 2014 by Ric Hanson

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Anthony Sherman recovered a fumble to set up Alex Smith’s 8-yard touchdown run with nearly 9 minutes left in allowing the Kansas City Chiefs rally to a 17-13 win over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

Jamaal Charles also scored on a 39-yard touchdown run as the Chiefs (6-3) scored twice in span of 4:31 to overcome a 13-3 deficit. The Chiefs defense then made a stand at its own 15 by forcing Bills quarterback Kyle Orton to throw four consecutive incompletions and turn the ball over on downs with 2:32 left.

Smith scored two plays after Sherman punched the ball out of the hands of Bills punt-returner Leodis McKelvin and then pounced on the loose ball at Buffalo’s 26. Orton hit Chris Hogan for a 25-yard touchdown pass for Buffalo (5-4). The Bills settled for two field goals, and Bryce Brown lost a fumble, in three trips inside the Chiefs 20.

Bills receiver Watkins active against Chiefs

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Buffalo Bills rookie receiver Sammy Watkins and running back Fred Jackson are listed as active against the Kansas City Chiefs today (Sunday). Watkins is the Bills’ leading receiver and is playing despite missing two straight practices after hurting his groin Wednesday. Jackson returns ahead of schedule. He was expected to miss four weeks after hurting his groin in a 17-16 win over Minnesota on Oct. 19. With Watkins playing, receiver Mike Williams is inactive for the second time in four games.

For the Chiefs (5-3), linebacker Joe Mays is listed as active a day after being taken off the team’s short-term injured reserve list. Mays has been on IR since training camp, when had wrist surgery.
