Girls regional golf will be contested today across the state. The team champion and runner-up at each site will advance to the State Tournament. The top 6 individuals and any ties for 6th will also advance to State as individuals. Here are the area sites.

CLASS 1A

Region 1 Final @ Newell Golf Club

Teams: Newell-Fonda, Alta-Aurelia, IKM-Manning, Coon Rapids-Bayard, Central Lyon, Remsen St. Mary’s.

Region 2 Final @ Crestwood Hills Golf Course in Anita

Teams: St. Albert, West Monona, Sidney, Essex, Akron-Westfield, Boyer Valley, Woodbury Central.

Woman arrested in Walnut for Assault and Child Endangerment

(Walnut, Iowa) – An investigation into a 9-1-1 hang-up call this (Wednesday) morning (May 18) from a home in the 700 block of Atlantic Street, in Walnut, resulted a woman being arrested on Domestic Abuse Assault/1st offense (with Bodily Injury), and Child Endangerment (Substantial Risk). The Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office reports Deputies responding to the call at around 6:27-a.m., arrested 39-year-old Amy Joy Carman. Victims of the alleged assault were said to be a 14-year old male and 28-year old male.

Page County woman arrested on drug and other charges following a rollover accident

(Sidney, Iowa) – Fremont County Sheriff Kevin Aistrope reports a Page County woman was arrested at around 1:35-a.m. today (Wednesday), following a single-vehicle rollover accident. Deputies investigating the crash near the intersection of Highway 2 and 252nd Street, near Waubonsie State Park, determined a 2018 Dodge Charger Hellcat driven by 31-year-old Devon Leigh Miller, of Coin, was traveling west on Highway 2, when it crossed the center line, left the roadway, and rolled.

Miller was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated 1st Offense, Possession with Intent to Distribute (Meth), Possession with Intent to Distribute (Cocaine), Possession of Contraband in a Correctional Facility, and Carrying Weapons. She was being held without bond at the Fremont County Jail.

The Iowa State Patrol and Sidney Fire and Rescue assisted the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office with the call.

Officials with the Creston (Iowa) Police Department report a Union County woman was arrested Tuesday afternoon, at a woman’s clothing store, in Creston. 23-year-old Autumn Leann Booth, of Cromwell, was arrested for Theft in the 2nd Degree. She later posted a $5,000 cash or surety bond. And, at around 3-p.m. Tuesday, 18-year-old Damian Joseph Gibbons, of Creston, was arrested at the Union County Law Enforcement Center, on a warrant for Violation of Probation stemming from an original charge of Harassment in the 2nd Degree. Gibbons was being held without bond in the Union County Jail, pending an appearance before the magistrate.

Late Monday morning, Creston Police arrested 46-year-old Mandi Lea Stowers, of Osceola, on a charge of Burglary in the 3rd Degree. She was transported to the Adams County Jail and held on a $1,000 cash or surety bond.

Audubon School Board passes budget amendment

(Audubon, Iowa) – The Audubon School Board, Monday, approve budget amendments for certain expenditures, following a public hearing. Superintendent Eric Trager has previously stated that the amendments will not impact property taxes, because they are offset with federal funding revenue. The Board also approved the addition of a Freshman Volleyball Coaching Position, due to increased interest in the sport. Superintendent Trager reports 33 girls have expressed interest in participating in volleyball this coming school year.

Exira-EHK Board approves new MS/HS Principal & other personnel hiring

(Elk Horn) – Members of the Exira-EHK School Board, Monday evening, approved several new hires to fill vacancies in the District, including a Middle School/High School Principal to succeed current Principal Nate McDonald, who accepted a similar position at Missouri Valley.

The Board selected Erika Van Cleave for the position. She currently serves as the Assistant Principal/Special Education Director at Riverside. Prior to that position, Van Cleave was a teacher and Instructional Coach for the AHSTW School District.

In addition, the Exira-EHK Board, Monday, approved the hiring of:

Brandon Baggett – HS English Teacher
Maria Hughes – Asst. JH/HS Track Coach
Carme Prunera – Spanish Teacher
Waylon Salinas – 4th Grade Teacher
Amanda Warnaca – MS Special Education Teacher.
Paula Yates – Food Service.
They also approved the resignation of Sarah Marshall – Cheer Coach.

In other business, the Board approved a bid from PCS for concrete work on the north side of the Exira building.

Man who allegedly assaulted deputies in southern IA is in custody

CENTERVILLE, Iowa — Authorities in southern Iowa report a man who eluded them for about three days following the assault of a sheriff’s deputy in Appanoose County, was apprehended Tuesday afternoon following the execution of a search warrant at the residence of the suspect’s wife. 33-year-old David Boley faces a dozen charges including assault and sex abuse. Police said Boley had been on a crime spree since Thursday. His wife, Cristina Boley, faces charges of child endangerment and aiding and abetting burglary in the 3rd Degree.

According to the Appanoose County Sheriff’s Office, David Boley hit an officer in the head Saturday in the 1700 block of Iowa Highway J18, sending that deputy to the hospital with head trauma. The deputy Boley allegedly hit on the head, Deputy Gary Buckalew, suffered multiple facial fractures. Buckalew was taken to a local hospital.

On Sunday, authorities report that Boley committed a burglary at 17578 Highway J18. He allegedly kicked in the door to the residence. At that time the homeowner confronted Boley with a firearm. Boley then fled the residence traveling westbound on foot.

Child on trike run over and killed in rural Baxter driveway

(Radio Iowa) – A young child was run over and killed near Baxter in rural Marshall County. Investigators say the accident happened shortly after 9:00 a.m. Tuesday. According to the Iowa State Patrol, a vehicle was backing from a residential garage when the driver backed over a young child who was riding a tricycle. An initial report filed by the patrol indicated that the driver had carefully checked behind the vehicle before backing from the garage, but did not see the child. The child was pronounced dead at the scene.

So far, no names have been released and the accident is under investigation.
