The 2022 Girls State Team Tennis will be contested on Wednesday at Waveland Tennis Complex in Des Moines for Class 1A and Waukee Northwest Tennis Complex for Class 2A. Semifinal matches are set to begin at 8:00 a.m. with Consolations and Championships to follow later in the day.

The 2022 Boys State Soccer Tournament begins Wednesday with Quarterfinals being played at Cownie Soccer Complex in Des Moines. Semifinals will be Friday and Championship matches on Saturday.

(Atlantic, Iowa) – The Iowa State Patrol, Tuesday (May 31), released information about a crash in Cass County that claimed the life of a man from South Dakota. Authorities say a 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle operated by 78-year-old James W. Spaulding, of Jefferson, SD, was in the right lane of I-80 eastbound, near mile marker 55, at around 2:25-p.m., Friday.
A 2017 Nissan Rogue SUV driven by 67-year-old Gale Eugene Linden, of Kimballton, was also in the right, eastbound lane. As the SUV slowed due to heavy traffic congestion from a lane closure in front of him, Spaulding was unable to slow down in-time. His motorcycle came into contact with the rear of the SUV in the right lane. Spaulding was ejected during the crash and also came into contact with the rear of the SUV.
When law enforcement arrived, they found him on the south shoulder of the interstate. He was sitting upright and talking with officers as they administered first aid. Spaulding was subsequently flown by LifeFlight Audubon to UnityPoint Hospital in Des Moines, where he died from his injuries over the weekend.
The Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office and Iowa DOT.
(Lewis, Iowa) – The Cass County Conservation Board will hold a youth fishing derby at Cold Springs Park near Lewis, on June 11th 2022. The event is open to the first 50 youths age 15 and under to register for the event. Check-in will run from 8:15am to 8:45am with the derby starting at 9:00am and running till 10:30 am.
Prizes will be awarded for the most total weight, heaviest single fish, longest single fish and shortest single fish. There will also be a raffle following fishing. The Conservation board with have some live bait for use and a limited number of fishing poles for use as well.

The Glenwood Police Department reports two arrests occurred Monday (May 30):
41-year-old John Adams, of Glenwood, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance 3rd offense, bond set at $5000 cash or surety. And, 42-year-old Sara Johnson, of Glenwood, was arrested for driving while suspended, bond set at $300 cash or surety.

JAY D. THYSEN, 56, of Elk Horn died Monday, May 30th from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident in Adair County. Funeral services for JAY D. THYSEN are currently pending at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira.
DOUGLAS CLARK, 60, of Avoca, died Monday, May 30, 2022. Memorial services for DOUGLAS CLARK will be held 1-p.m. Thursday, June 2nd, at the Pauley-Jones Funeral Home in Avoca.
The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Thursday, from Noon until 1-p.m.
