Other Atlantic Scores

McKenna DenBeste 95 (13th)
Sarah Fixmer 95 (14th)
Baylee Newell 100 (20th)

Brooke Newell, Erin Olsen, and Alyssa Ginther are all named 1st Team All-Conference with their top 5 finishes.

Notes from Head Coach Kathy Hobson: “Winning the conference tournament was a definite team effort – all 6 of our girls shot 100 strokes or less.

What a wonderful day for Brooke Newell. She had the mojo today – great putting. 2 under par is the lowest 18 hole score (net) that we’ve had in the past 10 seasons;  I can’t verify it, but it likely is the best that has been shot in girls golf at Atlantic High School.
I’m sure in Erin Olsen’s mind she would have liked to have shot better than 83 but that was still vital in our team success and gave her the 2nd best score of the day.
Good to see Alyssa Ginther back playing like we know she can.  She had a chip in and overall just had a solid day.
McKenna DenBeste and Sarah Fixmer were just out of the medals.  Both tied for 12th place but due to handicapping they were dropped to 13th and 14th.  12th place would have earned them 2nd team all-conference honors.
Baylee Newell struggled a bit on the front 9 but came back with a more consistent back 9. Way to go girls!!!”

Notes from Atlantic Head Coach Ed DenBeste: “Great day to play golf.  Probably the best day we had this year.  I knew the scores were going to be close.  Matt G shot a good round of 77.  Jake had struggles on first nine and but a one over back nine to finish 7 over.  Nate played well again also.  Good to see him finish below 80.  Zac had a great round but didn’t finish the last few holes well to shoot 80.  Kyle had a good score of 77.  Needed it a little lower.  Ben was low today.  Good to see him shoot 75.  I was hoping this was the year.  Glenwood played really well at home.  Give them credit.  296 is a great team score.  Kuemper had their 5th golfer go low with 71.  That was the difference between 2nd and 3rd.   Sectional Golf on Friday at AGCC.”

Chiefs swap DBs, offensive linemen after rookie minicamp

Sports

May 10th, 2016 by Ric Hanson

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – The Chiefs have signed defensive back Shannon Edwards and offensive linemen Garrick Mayweather, Drew Nowak and Zach Sterup following the completion of their three-day rookie minicamp. Defensive back Jordan Kovacs and offensive linemen Jake Bernstein, Ben Clarke and Laurence Gibson were released Tuesday to clear roster space for the new additions.

Edwards, a standout at Fresno State, impressed the Chiefs by picking off a couple passes during the minicamp. But he remains a longshot to make the roster after the Chiefs drafted three other cornerbacks. The 6-foot-3, 330-pound Mayweather played at Fordham and the 6-9, 320-pound Sterup played at Nebraska. Nowak was signed as an undrafted free agent by Jacksonville in 2012 and has spent time with Seattle.
