DCI assisting w/Monroe County death investigation

LOVILIA, IOWA – On Sunday, July 3rd, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office received specific information regarding an alleged homicide that had taken place days prior in Lovilia. Information indicated a rural location in Monroe County where a body was believed to be located. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa DNR responded to the area described and discovered a deceased female.

The Iowa DCI was requested to assist and an investigation into the woman’s death ensued. Deputies and Special Agents were unsuccessful in making contact with the deceased woman’s husband. Their residence, located at 202 East Street in Lovilia, was secured and the Iowa State Patrol Crisis Negotiation Team and Area A Tactical Team were called to assist. Negotiators attempted for several hours to de-escalate the situation involving a male subject inside the residence, but were unsuccessful. The male subject died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The investigation is ongoing and autopsies will be conducted by the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner.

Agencies involved are the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa DNR, Iowa State Patrol, Iowa DCI and
the Ankeny Police Department. There will be no more information released at this time.

DCI and Coralville Police Department Investigate Gunshot Death of Three-Year-Old Child

(UPDATE) CORALVILLE, Iowa – On the evening of Sunday, July 3, 2022, at 6:56 p.m., at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, three-year-old boy Damaria Sanders of Coralville died from apparent gunshot related injuries suffered earlier that same day inside his residence located within the 900-block of Boston Way in Coralville. An autopsy will be conducted in the coming days.

July 3, 2022 – (Previous report)

CORALVILLE, Iowa – At approximately 12:19 p.m. on Sunday, July 3, 2022, the Coralville Police Department was dispatched to an apartment within the Boston Way Apartment Complex in Coralville for reported gunshot injuries sustained by a three-year-old child. Upon emergency personnel arriving on scene, the child was transported via ambulance to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, where the child remains in critical condition.

The circumstances leading up to and immediately following the incident in question are being investigated by the Coralville Police Department and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.

Adair County Sheriff’s report: 3 arrests

(Greenfield, Iowa) – Adair County Sheriff Jeff Vandewater reports three arrests took place June 24th through the 26th. On the 24th, Adair Police arrested 37-year-old Luke Daniel Hommes, of Adair, for OWI/1st offense, after he was caught speeding 68 mph in a 35  mph zone in Adair. His BAC registered .182%. Hommes was also cited for No valid driver’s license. He was released later that same day on a $1,000 cash or surety bond.

On June 25th, an Adair County Sheriff’s Deputy arrested 21-year-old Jeffrey Dale Dillenburg, Jr., of Creston. He was arrested in the Kum-and-Go parking lot in Adair, after a records check indicated he was wanted on a Dallas County warrant for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Dillenburg was also arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance/2nd offense – Methamphetamine. He was released that same day on a $2,000 c/s bond.

And, on June 26th, 24-year-old Markese Latrell Davis, of Omaha, NE., was arrested on I-80 westbound at mile marker 88, in Adair County. A State Trooper pulled Davis over for speeding, and upon further investigation, detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. A pat down search of his person resulted in the recovery of a baggie containing a green, leafy substance. He was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance/Marijuana – 1st offense, and cited for speeding. Davis was release on a $1,000 c/s bond later that same day.

The Montgomery County Board of Supervisors will hold their regular weekly meeting on Tuesday, July 5th, beginning at 8:30-a.m. The session takes place in their Courthouse Board Room, in Red Oak. Here’s a look at their agenda:

New leadership takes over at John Deere Classic

The John Deere Classic wrapped up Sunday in the Quad Cities and the tournament will have a new leader. George McNeilly reports.

DOUG SCHMIDT, 60, of Massena, died Sunday, July 3, 2022, at the Cass Health in Atlantic. A Celebration of Life Service for DOUG SCHMIDT will be held on Friday, July 8, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Massena. The Lamb Funeral Home of Massena is in charge of the arrangements.

Open Visitation will be held at the Lamb Funeral Home in Massena on Thursday, July 7, 2022, from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with the family greeting friends from 4-until 7-p.m.

Burial is in the Massena Center Cemetery.  A luncheon will be held at the church following the committal services at the cemetery.  Online condolences may be left to the family at www.lambfuneralhomes.com.

Memorials may be directed to the Doug Schmidt Memorial Fund to be established by the family at a later date.

DOUG SCHMIDT is survived by:

His wife – Julie Schmidt, of Massena.

His daughter – Samantha (Will) Jenkins, of Massena.

His sons: Tucker (Brittni) Schmidt, of Wiota; Sidney (Krista) Schmidt, and Toby Schmidt, all of Massena
