USDA numbers see big increase in farmland values

Ag/Outdoor, News

September 26th, 2022 by admin

Survey information released from the U-S-D-A shows a big increase in farmland values and cash rent. Iowa State University livestock economist, Lee Schulz, says the cropland increased 19-point-seven percent.

Schulz says this is one set of numbers in the overall picture.

He says high commodity prices are one of the big drivers of land values.

Schulz specializes in livestock and says that industry is having an impact on pasture land values.

He says as the commodity prices rise there’s competition for that land. The Fed Reserve recently raised interest rates again and Schulz says that is going to continue to impact land values along with the other factors.

Iowa State releases its annual land value survey in December.

Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh previews Iowa

Sports

September 26th, 2022 by admin

Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh says Iowa’s style of defense dates back to the early 80s when Phil Parker played for Norm Parker at Michigan State. The fourth ranked ranked Wolverines look to stay unbeaten on Saturday with a visit to Kinnick Stadium.

Harbaugh says the key against the Iowa defense is to limit mistakes.

The Hawkeye defense faces huge challenge this week from running back Blake Corum, who averages more than seven yards a carry and has scored nine touchdowns. Harbaugh says Corum’s biggest strength is his ability to make defenders miss.

We’ll have Iowa vs Michigan on KJAN Saturday with pregame at 9:00 a.m.

Atlantic, IA—For the eighth consecutive time, Cass Health has been awarded a Top Workplaces 2022 honor by Iowa Top Workplaces.
