1 dead in a crash between 2 pickups in southern Iowa

News

October 8th, 2022 by Ric Hanson

(Monroe County, Iowa) – A crash between two pickups in southern Iowa Friday afternoon left one of the drivers dead, the other injured. Both men were from Albia. The Iowa State Patrol reports a pickup driven by 22-year-old Cody Christopher Kosman was traveling south on 655th Avenue (a gravel road) north of Albia at around 2:45-p.m. A pickup driven by 26-year-old Jonathan Michael Bedell was traveling north 655th, following a truck that was kicking up gravel dust.

The dust created a low visibility situation. The 2004 Chevy Silverado driven by Kosman passed by the truck and entered the dust on the front driver’s corner. The vehicle collided with a 2011 Silverado, driven by Bedell. Kosman died at the scene. Bedell was transported to the Monroe County Hospital by ambulance. Neither man was wearing a seat belt.

Rasmussen hauls in 4 scores and Atlantic picks up road win over Knoxville

Sports

October 8th, 2022 by admin

The Atlantic Trojans long road trip to Knoxville proved to be a successful outing on Friday. Atlantic used some big yardage plays to control the lead and ultimately earned a 39-13 win.

Junior receiver Colton Rasmussen had a monster game for the Trojans, hauling in four touchdown catches. He grabbed the first one from 45 yards out by ripping the ball away from a defender right at the goal line. That seemed to give sophomore quarterback Tristan Hayes some confidence and he threw some great passes throughout.

Tanner O’Brien added a big 51-yard rushing score and Dante Hedrington capped off a 9-play drive with a 3 yard touchdown run with 6:04 left to round out the Atlantic scoring.

Atlantic improves to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in Class 3A District 6 play.

Knoxville dropped to 1-6 on the season and 1-3 in District 6 play.
