Atlantic travels to face top-ranked Harlan

Sports

September 29th, 2022 by admin

The Atlantic Trojans (2-3) hit the road on Friday night to take on the top-ranked team in Class 3A, the Harlan Cyclones (4-1), on Friday night. We’ll have coverage of the contest on KJAN.

The Trojans are looking to bounce back after stumbling late in their Homecoming loss to ADM last week. The Trojans were able to keep pace with the Tigers for a good chunk of the game but didn’t close strong. They will need to finish strong this week to try to topple the Cyclones. Harlan quarterback Teagon Kasperbauer has been efficient once again for the defending champs, completing over 61% of his passes. Atlantic Head Coach Joe Brummer said it’s hard to slow the Cyclones down because Kasperbauer has so many weapons to turn to.

Harlan has five rushers over 100 yards on the season and four receivers with 80+ yards on the year. Cyclones Head Coach Todd Bladt said they look to make it tough on opponents with their balance.

The Trojans have a strong quarterback in their own right in Caden Andersen who has thrown for 1,057 yards and 10 scores this year. The Trojans have a good group of receivers on the end of those throws and Coach Brummer said they will need to make some big plays this week.

Coach Bladt has been impressed with the Trojan’s passing game and says it will test his defense.

The Trojans and Cyclones will kickoff at 7:00 p.m. on Friday night at Merrill Field. We’ll have coverage starting with our pick ’em show Who’s Gonna Win? at 6:00 p.m. followed by pregame at 6:30 p.m. Chris Parks and Jason Ayers will have the call on AM 1220, FM 101.1, online at KJAN.com. and on KJANTV. Catch a full interview with Coach Brummer at 4:45 p.m. Friday on Trojan Preview.

CRESTON, Iowa – Sept. 29, 2022 – A project to set beams for the new Ashworth Road bridge over Interstate 80 in West Des Moines requires a complete closure of westbound I-80 and closure of the left lane of eastbound I-80 between Jordan Creek Parkway (exit 121) and Grand Prairie Parkway (exit 118) from 10 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3 until 5 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Creston construction office.

During these closures, traffic will follow a marked detour route using Grand Prairie Parkway, University Avenue, and Jordan Creek Parkway.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
