Due to the weather and travel conditions in the Nishna Valley, KJAN’s coverage has been cancelled for the Tri-Center vs. Logan-Magnolia basketball games as part of the MAC Shootout in Council Bluffs.

Event organizers announced at 11:54am that all of today’s MAC Shootout games have been cancelled. Friday and Saturday games are still on as scheduled.

We’ll have coverage of the Riverside vs. Underwood doubleheader from the Shootout beginning at 4:00pm Friday as well as three games on Saturday. Fremont-Mills boys vs. Louisville, NE at 1:00pm, AHSTW girls vs. Bennington, NE at 2:30pm, and Atlantic vs. Wahoo Neumann boys at 7:00pm.

The Iowa State women were outscored 29-15 in the fourth quarter in a 67-60 loss to Kansas State at home, Wednesday. The Cyclones fall to 1-4 in the Big 12. The Cyclones led by as many as 10 points late in the third quarter and led 45-38 heading into the final frame. Iowa State is 7-9 overall.

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) — Jordan Barnes hit five 3-pointers and finished with a career-high 27 points and Brandon Murphy tipped in Barnes’ missed 3 at the buzzer to give Indiana State beat Northern Iowa 69-67. Murphy finished with nine points on 4-of-5 shooting and Brenton Scott scored 13 points for Indiana State.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Iowa is expected to lose cornerback Josh Jackson to the NFL after his standout junior season. The Hawkeyes also weren’t surprised to see junior center James Daniels go, and he might be just as hard to replace. Iowa enters the offseason with plenty of key spots to fill for next season.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Iowa Coach Kirk Ferentz is preparing to battle an unlikely off-season opponent: his next-door neighbors. Trial is scheduled next month in a lawsuit that pits Ferentz and his wife against the three other families who live along their private road outside Iowa City. A judge is expected to decide whether the Ferentzes have breached a 2001 legal agreement and trespassed by planting trees that encroach onto Saddle Club Road.

HOUSTON (AP) — Scott Frost has one final award to share with the University of Central Florida. The former UCF coach and new Nebraska boss received the Paul “Bear” Bryant Coach of the Year Award

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Chiefs have promoted running backs coach Eric Bieniemy to offensive coordinator, filling the job that Matt Nagy left open when he was hired as the head coach of the Chicago Bears.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid announced the promotion in a statement Tuesday.

Bieniemy has spent five seasons with the Chiefs, joining the franchise when Reid was hired as the head coach. He has experience as an offensive coordinator during a two-year stint at Colorado, his alma mater, and also spent five seasons as running backs coach with the Minnesota Vikings.

Bieniemy was a second-round pick of the Chargers in 1991, and played running back for nine seasons with San Diego, Cincinnati and Philadelphia. He played for Reid in his final season with the Eagles.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Iowa Coach Kirk Ferentz is facing a challenge from an unlikely opponent: his next-door neighbors. Trial is scheduled Feb. 6 in a lawsuit that pits the nation’s longest-tenured college football coach and his wife against the three other families who live along a private road outside Iowa City. A judge is expected to decide whether the Ferentzes breached a 2001 agreement and trespassed by planting trees and installing landscaping items along Saddle Club Road.

The fight over those encroachments is part of a long-running dispute. A judge ruled in September that the Ferentzes aren’t required to a homeowners’ association that neighbors formed in 2015 to split the costs of road maintenance. The ruling means the Ferentzes don’t have to pay $9,400 they were assessed for a repair project.

(AP) — Malik Newman scored a career-high 27 points, Svi Mykhailiuk added 23 and No. 12 Kansas staved off an upset bid by Iowa State, pulling away in the closing minutes for an 83-78 victory. The game was tied 73-all with 3 1/3 minutes left before the Jayhawks turned up the defense. Lindell Wigginton led the Cyclones with 27 points.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Marcus Foster scored 21 of his 23 points in the first half, Martin Krampelj had 14 points and 14 rebounds for his third straight double-double and No. 25 Creighton beat Butler 85-74. The Bluejays won for the ninth time in 10 games and improved to 11-0 at home.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — James Palmer Jr. had 18 points and Nebraska opened up a double-digit lead early in the second half then held off three Wisconsin surges to take a 63-59 win. Nebraska (12-6, 3-2 Big Ten) led by as many as 13 early in the half, then saw the lead shrink to five as Wisconsin (9-9, 2-3) made five of six field goals.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Former Nebraska linebacker Barrett Ruud is returning to the Cornhuskers to coach inside linebackers. Ruud was a three-time All-Big 12 selection during his three seasons with Nebraska from 2001-04, becoming the school’s all-time leading tackler. He played eight seasons in the NFL for four teams.
