News, Sports

May 18th, 2018 by Ric Hanson

A man authorities are looking for after he fell into the water at Lake Panorama Thursday evening, has been identified as 22-year old Kenton Greaves, of Brooklyn, New York. Multiple sources say Grand View University in Des Moines sent out a letter on Friday, indicating Greaves had died after he disappeared while tubing on the lake with a group of friends.

Greaves had just completed his junior year at GVU, where he was a member of the wrestling team, and a Senior Criminal Justice major. Crisis counselors were being made available to Grand View University students and staff to help them deal with the loss.

The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office and dive teams are working to recover Greaves’ body.

The Atlantic boys golf team hosted a District Golf Tournament on Friday at the Atlantic Golf and Country Club. As a team the Trojans came up just shy of an entry to the State Tournament but two individuals will move on. Matt Gearheart shot a 74 and was Runner-Up in the District and Cyle Renaud shot 77 to finish 4th. Both golfers will move on to State.

ADM was the District Champion with a 308 total. Norwalk came in 2nd at 310. Atlantic was 3rd with a 313. Winterset 345 and Bondurant-Farrar 360 rounded out the field.

Atlantic Head Coach Ed DenBeste: “This was a tough one for the team. We were hoping to make it through today. We knew that ADM and Norwalk were both solid teams and had to play well today. Tough to not qualify on your home course. I feel bad for our seniors, Austin, Mason, and Ben. I know they were hoping to make it to state. However, good to see Matt and Cyle both qualify for state as individuals. They will head to Fort Dodge on Wednesday to play Thursday and Friday. Good luck to them.”
