UNI falls just short against Belmont

The UNI men’s basketball team fell behind Belmont by 13 points in the first half and couldn’t claw their way back in a 76-72 loss on Saturday.

Trey Campbell had 16 points and Michael Duax added 12 in the loss for the Panthers.

UNI falls to 9-8 on the season and will next up host Illinois State on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m.

Drake women beat Indiana State

The Drake women’s basketball team picked up a road win over Indiana State on Saturday 86-65. The Bulldogs dominated from the outset with a 32-10 advantage in the first quarter.

Maggie Bair led Drake with 17 points and Anna Miller finished with 15. The Bulldogs improved to 3-2 on the road this season. They now have a 9-5 overall record and are 4-2 in the Valley.

Next up the Bulldogs will host Illinois-Chicago on Thursday.

Drake takes down Bradley 86-61

The Drake Bulldogs picked up an 86-61 home win over Bradley on Saturday at the Knapp Center. The Bulldogs led 45-23 at halftime and held the lead firm from there.

Tucker DeVries led the Bulldogs with 28 points and Sardaar Calhoun added 16 points.

Drake improved to 14-5 on the season and next up will host Missouri State on Wednesday.

Iowa women roll past Penn State

The Iowa women’s basketball team rolled past Penn State 108-67 on Saturday at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The Hawkeyes jumped out to a 34-15 lead by the end of the first quarter and never looked back.

Caitlin Clark led 5 Hawkeyes in double-figures with 27 points, 10 assists, and 7 rebounds. Monika Czinano added 20 points and five boards.

The Hawkeyes improve to 14-4 on the season and will now head to Michigan State on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. We’ll have that game on KJAN.

Iowa State falls just short at Kansas

Iowa State came up just short of a big win at Kansas on Saturday afternoon. KJ Adams hit a tough shot with 10 seconds left to give Kansas a lead and Caleb Grill missed a contested last second three and Kansas came out on top 62-60.

Gabe Kalsheur had tied the game with 35 seconds left on a three before Adams’ go-ahead. Kalsheur finished with 23 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Osun Osunniyi added 14 points and 6 boards.

Gradey Dick led Kansas with 21 points and 5 rebounds. Jalen Wilson added 16 points and 11 boards. Kansas improved to 16-1 on the season.

Iowa State dropped to 13-3 on the season and 4-1 in the conference. Next up for the Cyclones is a home game against Texas on Tuesday.

Atlantic took 6th in the 200 Yard Medley Relay with a time of 1:52.96 (Alex Lihs, Abe Schechinger, Kyler Rieken, Keaten Rieken.) Alex Lihs was 6th in the 100-yard backstroke at 1:03.49 and Keaton Rieken was 8th in the 100-yard freestyle at 53.61.

The Trojans also went 6th in the 400 yard freestyle relay and were 7th in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Montgomery County ARPA Committee to meet Monday afternoon

(Red Oak, Iowa) – The Montgomery County Auditor’s Office reports the County’s ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) Committee, will meet 1-p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, 2023, in the EMA Building Meeting Room.

The Committee will: review ARPA funding; proposed projects and expenses; a possible additional project; fund balance to date; and other items to discuss, including the possible scheduling of another ARPA meeting, if necessary.

Atlantic City Council Special Meeting – Closed Session set for 1/16/23

(Atlantic, Iowa) – Atlantic’s City Administrator John Lund reports a Special meeting of the City Council will take place in a closed session 4-p.m. Monday, Jan. 16th, in the Council’s Chambers  at City Hall. The purpose of the meeting “Is to discuss issues of concern to the Police Department.”

The Code Section reads the Council may enter into a Closed Session, “To avoid disclosure of Specific Law Enforcement Matter, Such as allowable tolerances or criteria for [the] selection, prosecution, or settlement of cases, which, if disclosed, would facilitate disregard to requirements imposed by law, as allowed under 21.5(1)(h).”

No other information was provided.
