UNI women beat Illinois-Chicago

The UNI women’s basketball team picked up a 79-44 win over Illinois-Chicago in Cedar Falls on Saturday. The Panthers outscored the Flames 23-8 in the second quarter to take control of the game.

Maya McDermott scored 12 points and Kam Finley added 11 for the Panthers.

UNI improved to 12-5 overall and 7-1 in the Valley. Next up for the Panthers is a visit to Missouri State on Thursday at 6:00 p.m.

Iowa State women defeat Kansas

The Iowa State women’s basketball team picked up a 65-60 win at home over Kansas on Saturday. Ashley Joens had a monster game with 26 points and 15 rebounds. Izzi Zingaro added 11 points and 6 rebounds off the bench.

Iowa State dropped in 12 3-pointers in the game and held Kansas to just two makes from downtown. The Cyclones forced 13 Kansas turnovers. Iowa State improves to 13-4 overall and 5-2 in Big 12 play.

Next up for the Cyclones is a road trip to TCU on Wednesday.

Ohio State rolls past Iowa

Ohio State used a 12-2 run to start the 2nd half to pull away from the Iowa Hawkeyes for a 93-77 win on Saturday. The Buckeyes would put together a 20-4 run later in the 2nd half to seal the victory.

Kris Murray led Iowa with 22 points and 7 rebounds. Filip Rebraca added 15 points for the Hawkeyes.

Iowa falls to 12-7 on the season and 4-4 in Big Ten play. Next up for the Hawkeyes is a trip to Michigan State on Thursday. We’ll have that game on KJAN with pregame at 5:00 p.m.

Iowa State gives up big lead at Oklahoma State

The Iowa State men’s basketball team squandered away a 16-point lead and fell at Oklahoma State 61-59 on Saturday. The Cowboys didn’t have a lead until the final three minutes of the game but pulled out the upset with some good outside shooting and a big edge at the foul line. The Cowboys only made 16 of 28 free-throws but Iowa State only attempted 12.

The Cyclones had the ball down just one point with 13 seconds left at the end of the game but Tre King attempted a three that was off the mark and he committed a foul on Woody Newton to end the game.

Osun Osunniyi led Iowa State with 15 points and 7 rebounds. The Cyclones fell to 14-4 on the season and 5-2 in the Big 12.

Avery Anderson led Oklahoma State with 18 points and 5 assists. The Cowboys shot 43% from three in the game. They improved to 11-8 on the season.

Drake dominates Evansville behind Penn’s record breaking assist day

The Drake Bulldogs picked up a dominating road win over Evansville 97-61 on Saturday. Tucker DeVries led the charge with 23 points, dropping in 6 threes in the contest.

Darnell Brodie added 17 points and grabbed 8 rebounds, while Roman Penn had 13 points and 18 assists. That assists total for Penn broke the school record for a single game performance.

The Bulldogs improved to 15-6 overall and 6-4 in the Valley. Next up for Drake is a home tilt with Indiana State on Tuesday.

UNI takes down Illinois-Chicago

Michael Duax help power UNI to a 78-72 win over Illinois-Chicago on Saturday. Duax had a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds. The Panthers outscored the Flames 47-34 in the second half to grab the win.

Bowen Born added 18 points and Tytan Anderson poured in 17 points for the Panthers.

UNI improved to 11-9 on the season and 7-3 in Valley play. UNI will host Valparaiso on Wednesday.

Sioux City won the Lewis Central Swimming Invitational on Saturday in Council Bluffs. The Spartans scored 422 points. Lewis Central was third with 227. Atlantic was 10th with 95 points.

The Logan-Magnolia Panthers finished 4th at the Doug Trees Bearcat Invitational at North Butler on Saturday. The Panthers scored 139 points and were led by a championship from Wyatt Reisz at 160 pounds. Corbin Reisz finished 2nd at 126.
