New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. Severe storms are possible later this afternoon into this evening with damaging wind gusts, large hail, and locally heavy rainfall possible. Additional strong to severe storms will arrive late in the evening into the overnight with gusty winds, perhaps a tornado or two, and locally heavy rainfall possible.

Tonight: Showers & thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Low around 63. S/SE @ 10-25 mph. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.
Monday: Partly sunny w/a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms. High around 83. S/SW @ 10 mph. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Monday Night: A 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Low around 63.
Tuesday: An 80% chance of showers and thunderstorms. High near 82. S/SW @ 10-20. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Tue.Night: A 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Low around 54.
Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 82.

Cass County Relay for Life set for June 30th

(Atlantic, Iowa) – Preparations are well underway for the Cass County Relay For Life event on Sunday, June 30th, at the Nishna Valley YMCA, in Atlantic. Relay for life is a time for the community to come together in celebration of, and support for, cancer survivors and their caregivers. Cass County Relay for Life Coordinator Carole Schuler says there no differences in how the event plays out this year, as compared to years past.

Survivors, supporters, and community members are invited to join together from 11:30-a.m. Until 2-p.m. June 30th.

Register your Relay team at www.relayforlife.org/casscountyia. You can also call 1-800-227-2345 and have an expert at the American Cancer Society get you registered.

Schuler says volunteers are needed to help the day of the event.

To kick off Relay for Life summer activities, local supporters are invited to take part in the Relay for Life raffle to help raise funds for awareness and prevention.

The drawing will be held the day of the Relay. Organizers invite the community to enjoy a Kids Zone, Survivor Meal and other activities during this special time together. The 2024 Cass County Relay for Life will conclude with a Luminaria Ceremony.

Tri-Center Trojans Baseball Season Preview with Coach Max Kozeal

The Tri-Center boys baseball team is off to great start to their season. Their most recent win was Tuesday when they defeated Riverside 7-2. Junior Carter Kunze went 3-4 with a home run and 3 RBI’s. Isaac Wohlhunter pitched four solid innings while striking out five Bulldogs batters.

The Trojans are coming off last year when they lost to Woodbury Central 3-0 in the first round of Class 1A-Region 7 semifinal round. Tri-Center will be coached by Max Kozeal this season.

Coach Kozeal talked about why he thinks his team have been successful so far to start this season.

Many eighth graders were added to the Trojans roster this season.

Coach Kozeal had a lot praise for the coaches and players in the Western Iowa Conference this year.

Coach Kozeal elaborated on if his teams has goals or expectation for this season.

The Trojans next baseball game will be Thursday June 6th when they will host Missouri Valley in Western Iowa Conference regular season matchup. That game will start at 7:30 p.m.

 

Kuemper Catholic Huge Seventh Inning Secures Road Win Over Atlantic Trojans Baseball Team Friday Night

The Kuemper Catholic Knights baseball picked up their first Hawkeye Ten Conference of the season, when they defeated the Atlantic Trojans 15-8 Friday night in Atlantic. Atlantic got a board first when Xavier Darrow scored on an RBI Base hit by Zayden Parker in the bottom of the second. Atlantic bats went a little silent until their bats came to life in they tied the game up at six when the Trojans were caught in a run down between first and second base which allowed Gavin McLaren to come in to score the game tying run. Then in the top of the seventh the Knights scored on nine unanswered runs to secure the win for the knights. Trojans starting pitcher Hudson McLaren pitched a solid game, where he pitched five solid innings while striking out four knights batters on the night.

Coach Nathan Block had this to say about the 15-8 loss to Kuemper Catholic.

The loss for Atlantic would give them a 1-5 overall record and 1-4 in Hawkeye Ten, as they will be at Creston on Monday June 3rd. The win improves Kuemper Catholic record to 3-4 overall and 1-0 in the Hawkeye Ten.
