ONAWA, Iowa (AP) – Authorities say a business owner was shot by an employee in the western Iowa town of Onawa. Officers who were sent to a storage building around 6 p.m. Sunday found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to one of his legs.  The man was identified as 32-year-old Darren Hieber. Hieber was taken to Burgess Health Center in Onawa and is expected to survive his wound. Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation officials had said Hieber probably had interrupted a burglar. Now investigators say they think Hieber was shot by one of his employees.  Authorities wouldn’t discuss what led to the shooting. No arrest has been reported.

The Atlantic Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a meeting of the “Young Professionals of Atlantic,” on Wednesday, February 8th. Guest speaker at the Noon event, to be held at Iowa Western Community College in Atlantic,  is Kim Jordan, with Anita Engraving & Awards. Kim represents a small family- owned and operated business that’s celebrating its 42nd year in business in southwest Iowa, serving the needs of its customers in a wide geographic area.

The presentation is part of the Chambers’ continuing effort to support established businesses and attract new start-ups in Cass County. As entrepreneurs, businesses such as Anita Engraving comprise the majority of commerce on “main street” in America. The business, which has been owned by Jon and Kim Jordan since they took it over in 1989, designs and assembles trophies, medals, plaques, engraved plates, clocks, cast bronze plaques, signage, ribbons and custom products in Anita.

Wednesday’s event marks the first of Young Professionals of Atlantic’s “Meal with a CEO (Clearly Experienced Owner)” mentorship program, which will take place every other month in 2012. Attendance to the lunches and dinners is open to all working professionals ages 21-40 in the area, whether they are Chamber members or not. Anyone wanting to attend,  should call or make their reservations with the Atlantic Area Chamber of Commerce by no later than Tuesdsay, February 7th.
