The Page County Sheriff’s Department reports a Taylor County man was arrested Saturday on a warrant for Failure to Appear. Sheriff Lyle Palmer says 19-year old Roberto Hernandez Cruz, of New Market, was arrested in Clarinda by a Page County Deputy. Cruz was unable to post bond and was released to a Taylor County Deputy for transportto the Taylor County Jail, for holding.
AMES, Iowa – Iowa State junior linebacker A.J. Klein was named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week the league office announced today. A media panel selected Klein to his first weekly league honor.
Klein registered a season-high 14 tackles, forced a fumble and was credited with a quarterback hurry in Iowa State’s 37-31 double-overtime win over No. 2 Oklahoma State Friday night at Jack Trice Stadium. The Kimberly, Wis., native helped the Cyclones produce their first-ever victory over a team ranked in the top six in the Associated Press Poll.
Klein additionally had a pass break up and a tackle for loss, as the Cyclones forced five turnovers and held the vaunted Cowboy offense to only 60 rushing yards.
The Adair County Board of Supervisors will hold their regular weekly session Tuesday morning, in Greenfield. On their agenda at 10-a.m., is a closed session to discuss matters in litigation with Iowa Communities Assurance Pool (ICAP) Representative & Attorney Michelle Rodamyer, Cass-Adair County Engineer Charles Marker, and County Attorney Mike Maynes.
The regular session begins at 9-a.m., and will include an update from County Conservationist Kevin Blazek on the Orient Lake Safe House/Shower building, and request for a letter of support. Cass-Adair County Engineer Charles Marker will also present a road closure resolution for the board to sign, and right of way contracts for bridge replacement projects, along with his regular activities and road maintenance reports.
Three western Iowa residents face theft charges following their arrests Sunday afternoon for copper wire theft in Pottawattamie County. Pott County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Sgt. Dwayne Richie told KJAN News 27-year old Sara Lindgren, of Mondamin, along with 28-year old Nicholas Day and 23-year old Dane Larsen, both of Little Sioux, were arrested and charged with Theft in the Second Degree and Criminal Trespass. Lindgren faces additional charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Sgt. Richie says at around 2:05-p.m. Sunday, a resident who lives along Whippoorwill Road observed suspicious activity occurring near a tower owned by American Power, out of Bellevue, NE. The witness called authorities and was able to provide them with a license plate of the suspects vehicle, which was described as a KIA Spectra. Two of the suspects, a white female and a male were in the car, which was parked behind the towers. A third person, a white male was observed climbing on a tower.
Richie says a deputy responding to the scene saw a vehicle matching the suspect’s vehicle at around 2:16-p.m., and initiated a traffic stop because he observed copper wiring sticking out of the back of the vehicle.
Lindgren, Day and Larsen were being held in the Pott County Jail on $5,000 bond each. They were scheduled to appear in court, this morning.

STATS LLC.- From general manager Scott Pioli and defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel to injured quarterback Matt Cassel, the Kansas City Chiefs have plenty of connections to the New England Patriots.
On-field success isn’t currently one of them.
Coming off a critical road victory that left them alone atop the AFC East, the Patriots return to Foxborough on Monday night to face a reeling Chiefs team that will have unproven Tyler Palko under center.
As Bill Belichick’s czar of player personnel, Pioli helped build the Patriots (6-3) into a powerhouse last decade before coming to Kansas City in 2009.
Pioli traded for Cassel — who emerged in 2008 with New England after then-Chiefs safety Bernard Pollard ended Tom Brady’s season with a hit to his knee in the season opener — and prior to 2010, hired Crennel, New England’s defensive coordinator during its run of three Super Bowl victories in four seasons.
Cassel had a Pro Bowl season in 2010 and Kansas City rode an improved defense under Crennel to a surprising AFC West title, but a repeat playoff berth is looking unlikely. After bouncing back from an 0-3 start with four straight wins, the Chiefs were outscored 48-13 in consecutive home losses to Miami and Denver.
To make matters worse, Cassel suffered what coach Todd Haley called a “significant” hand injury in last Sunday’s 17-10 loss to the Broncos and could miss the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery Monday.
Palko, who’s thrown 13 NFL passes — 26 fewer than Cassel had when he took over for Brady in 2008 — will be under center for the foreseeable future.
“Tyler is the next in line, and he’s done a terrific job, like I said, of keeping himself ready,” Haley said. “That’s what the No. 2 quarterback has to do, because you don’t know. At a moment’s notice, you could be in there playing, just like any other position.”
Despite having been outscored 157-40 in their losses, the Chiefs (4-5) are still just a game out in the West.
The Patriots, meanwhile, have first place in the East all to themselves — a reality that was tough to imagine after back-to-back losses to Pittsburgh and the New York Giants left them tied with Buffalo and the New York Jets.
