Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Department spokesman, Sgt. Riche says at around 12:55-p.m., a 2005 Hyundai Sonata driven by 19-year old Ailish Andersen, of Council Bluffs, was traveling westbound on Highway 6 in Oakland and passing another vehicle, when her car went out of control. The vehicle entered the south ditch and rolled over, coming to rest on a barbed-wire fence. Iowa businesses recover along highway to Nebraska

News

January 3rd, 2012 by Ric Hanson

NEBRASKA CITY, Neb. (AP) — Businesses are continuing to recover from Missouri River flooding that closed a highway connection between southwest Iowa and southeast Nebraska. Iowa Highway 2 runs between Interstate 29 in Iowa west into Nebraska City. The highway was closed by rising waters in June, which forced businesses west of the interstate to shut down. The highway pavement was broken, and receding floodwaters left mounds of silt everywhere. But the mess has been cleaned up and road repairs have been made.

Brad Buckingham of Sapp Brothers Travel Center told an Omaha television station that “the business is just coming back every day.” Grant Hickey manages a bar and restaurant in Nebraska City, which lost pass-through business from travelers. He says his sales are back to normal as well.
