WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — Robbie Hummel scored 17 points to help Purdue defeat Iowa 75-68 on Tuesday night. Hummel also had 11 rebounds and affected the game in many ways, despite shooting just 5 for 14 from the field. Lewis Jackson scored 14 points, Ryne Smith scored 12, Kelsey Barlow had 11 points and seven rebounds and Terone Johnson added 10 points for the Boilermakers (14-5, 4-2 Big Ten), who bounced back from a 67-62 loss to Wisconsin that ended their 26-game home winning streak. Zach McCabe scored 20 points, Roy Devyn Marble had 18 and Matt Gatens added 12 for the Hawkeyes (11-9, 3-4), who were coming off a 75-59 win over Michigan. The Hawkeyes led by 11 points in the first half, but didn’t shoot well after that. Purdue swept the season series, having won 79-76 in Iowa City on Dec. 28.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Lawmakers in tax committees are considering changing an economic development tool that some say puts an unfair burden on property taxpayers and can be misused. Members of the Senate Ways and Means Committee heard a presentation Tuesday on tax increment financing, a system in which cities and counties can pay for infrastructure work in specified areas by dedicating future tax revenue to those projects. Some lawmakers say the practice, put in place in 1969, has been crucial to redeveloping urban areas. But others say the tool is being misused. One proposal would limit the manner and duration of the practice, as well as strengthen reporting requirements.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The number of deer killed during the recent hunting season was down about 4 percent from last year. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says in a news release Tuesday that Iowa hunters killed nearly 113,000 deer during the season that ended Jan. 10. That is also down about 21 percent from 2006. Although the numbers of deer taken are down, the DNR says the number of deer licenses issued has remained about the same since 2006. Dale Garner, chief of the DNR’s Wildlife Bureau, says the reduced kill numbers are the result of the reduced deer population. He says officials will review the deer harvest and make proposals to reduce the number of deer killed and stabilize the state’s deer population.

The Atlantic City Council Wednesday, will hold a public hearing on the proposed 2012-2013 Capital Improvement Projects (CIP). The hearing will take place during the Council’s regular meeting, which begins at 5:30-p.m. Following the hearing, the Council is expected to act on a motion to authorize the advertising of bids for those projects.
In other business, the Atlantic City Council will hold the first reading of an amendment to the City’s Traffic Control Ordinance, which calls for the adding of a stop sign on Pine Ridge Road, at 22nd Street. They’ll also consider a Resolution granting approval of an application by John and Rita Welch, for an Industrial Property Tax Exemption on a new 9,000 square foot building, located at 800 Park Drive, and hear a report from Councilman Shaun Shouse, with regard to discussion about a proposed Tax Increment Financing (TIF) Policy.
CLYDE DAVID McMULLIN, 90, of Stuart died Monday, January 16th at the Community Care Center in Stuart. Funeral services for Clyde David McMullin will be held on Saturday, January 21st at 10:30 am in the Zion Lutheran Church in Dexter. Johnson Family Funeral Home in Dexter has the arrangements.
