RUBY ARLENE MARTIN, 84, of Harlan, died Sat., Feb. 11th, at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan. Funeral services for RUBY MARTIN will be held 11-a.m. Tue., Feb. 14th, at the Pauley-Jones Funeral Home in Harlan.

Visitation at the funeral home is from 1-9pm Mon., Feb. 13th, with the family greeting friends from 6-8pm.

Burial will be in the Harlan Cemetery.

RUBY MARTIN is survived by:

Her husband – Marvin Martin, of Harlan.

Her sons – David (lois) Martin, & Daniel (Marilyn) Martin, all from Harlan.

Her daughters – Patricia (James) Mortensen, of Kimballton, & Susan (Roger) Jensen, of Loveland, CO.

Her sister – Viola Waddell, of Harlan.

11 grandchildren & 1 great-grandchild.

ANNAMAE LAWRENCE, 92, of Atlantic, died Sat., Feb. 11th, at the Heritage House, in Atlantic. Funeral services for ANNAMAE LAWRENCE will be held 11-a.m. Fri., Feb. 17th,  at the Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home, in Atlantic.

Visitation with the family will be held from 10-11am Friday (prior to the service), at the funeral home.

Burial, in the Atlantic Cemetery, will be held at a later date.

ANNAMAE LAWRENCE is survived by:

Her son – Walter F. “Rick” Proehl, of Altoona.

Her daughters – Sharen Kay (Jerry) Herrick, of Wiota; Karen Rae (Leonard) Theulen, of Atlantic; & Delila Ann (Melvin) Briles, of Atlantic.

Her step-son: Marvin (Joanne) Lawrence, of Omaha, NE.

Her brother – Dennis Pond, of FL.

30 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren.

2 SW IA people arrested on burglary charges

Authorities in Page County report two people were arrested Saturday night on burglary charges, following the execution of a search warrant at a residence in Shenandoah. Sheriff Lyle Palmer says 30-year Sara Jeanine York, of Shenandoah, and 35-year old Christopher Lee Jones, of Essex,  were each arrested on charges of Burglary in the 3rd Degree (class “D” felony), Trespass (simple misdemeanor), and Theft 5th (simple misdemeanor). Both subjects are currently being held in the Page County Jail on $5,600 bond.   

Their arrests occurred at around 11:40-p.m., Saturday, after members from the Page County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at 407 1/2  West Lowell Avenue in Shenandoah. The charges against the pair stem from a year long, ongoing investigation, into the Burglaries of farm houses and buildings in rural Page County.  The Sheriff says additional charges are pending against York and Jones.  Charges against other suspects are also pending at this time.

Prescott woman arrested in Adams County

Sheriff’s officials in Adams County report a Prescott woman was arrested Saturday night. 43-year old Julie Adsit was taken into custody following a traffic stop on a charge of Driving While Suspended, after authorities determined she was driving with a suspended license. Adsit was being held in the Adams County Jail.

Man sentenced in Iowa fed court in tax fraud case

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – A former Las Vegas body guard arrested on Interstate 29 in Iowa has been sentenced to three years in federal prison for conspiracy to commit wire fraud and fraudulent use of bank cards. Ken Siebert was sentenced Friday and ordered to pay more than $400,000 in restitution.  Siebert was stopped north of Council Bluffs last February, and more than $4,500 in cash and 209 bank cards in various names were found in his car. Siebert told authorities he was working for a tax return company that paid him to file federal income tax returns based on stolen identity information.  Authorities linked Siebert to a Las Vegas theft ring suspected of stealing at least $2.7 million from the U.S. government via improper tax returns.

Airman from Red Oak killed in AZ motorcycle crash

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — A U.S. Air Force sergeant from Iowa has been killed in a motorcycle accident inn southern Arizona. A news release from Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson says Tech Sgt. Dustin Jackson died after an accident near Saguaro National Park on Friday. His hometown was Red Oak, Iowa. The 36-year-old was taken to a hospital in Tucson where he died. The cause of the accident is under investigation. The Air Force released his name and hometown on Sunday.

Jackson was a crew chief on the base fire department. He enlisted in the Air Force in 2000 and came to Tucson in August 2008. The Air Force says Jackson recently returned from Iraq. He is survived by his parents and a sister.

Panthers Top Redbirds in Cedar Falls

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — Seth Tuttle had 17 points and 11 rebounds, Johnny Moran added 16 points — including four 3-pointers — and Northern Iowa rolled to a 78-63 victory over Illinois State on Saturday night.

Marc Sonnen chipped in 12 points and Chip Rank had 10 for the Panthers (17-10, 7-8 Missouri Valley), who rode their hot long-range shooting to the win. Northern Iowa was 12 of 21 from 3-point range but just 13 of 29 from inside the arc.

Bryant Allen led Illinois State (18-10, 8-7) with 17 points, and Jackie Carmichael had 14 points and 13 rebounds. Carmichael was coming off an 18-point, 20-rebound performance in his last game.Northern Iowa shot 54 percent from the field, including 8 of 11 on 3-pointers, in the first half and took a 40-34 lead into halftime. The Panthers cruised from there.

The loss denied ISU’s Tim Jankovich his 100th victory as Redbirds coach.

Cyclones Send Aggies Packing

AMES, Iowa — Chris Allen scored a season-high 25 points and Iowa State pounded Texas A&M 69-46 on Saturday for its fourth victory in five games.

Scott Christopherson added 10 points for the Cyclones (18-7, 8-4 Big 12), who pulled into a tie with Baylor for third place in the Big 12 ahead of Monday night’s showdown with the Bears in Waco, Texas. Iowa State turned a comfortable lead into a huge one with a 13-0 run early in the second half, putting the Cyclones ahead 48-22.Texas A&M, the Big 12’s second-worst offensive team, scored just three points in the opening 8 1/2 minutes of the second half as Iowa State cruised to another decisive win over the Aggies.

David Loubeau scored 10 points for Texas A&M (12-12, 3-9), which was outrebounded 38-22 en route to its fourth straight loss.
