JUPITER, Fla. (AP) – David Wright singled and made a fine fielding play in his first spring training game, helping the New York Mets beat the St. Louis Cardinals 6-3 Monday. Wright had missed the entire Grapefruit League schedule because of a torn abdominal muscle. He lined Jake Westbrook’s full-count pitch into left field in the first inning. He grounded out to short in the fourth.  In the second inning, Wright dived to his right to snag Rafael Furcal’s one-hopper behind third base, popped up and threw to first in time.  Johan Santana walked three of the first four Cardinals – two scored. Coming in, Santana had walked just four in 13 1-3 innings.  Matt Holliday extended his hitting streak to 13 games with an RBI single. Tyler Greene’s sacrifice fly to right brought in the second run.

Wind Advisory & Fire Weather Watch in effect for parts of western IA today

Weather

March 27th, 2012 by Ric Hanson

The National Weather Service says a Wind Advisory will be in effect from 11-am until 4-pm today (Tuesday), for parts of the KJAN listening area, along with a Fire Weather Watch, due to the danger posed by strong winds and extremely dry conditions. The Advisory and Fire Weather Watch (which is in effect from this morning through this evening), includes Audubon, Crawford, Carroll and Greene Counties in our listening area.

Strong westerly winds of 25-to 45-miles per hour, combined with low relative humidity are forecast for today. With the grasslands already being very dry, and other near dormant vegetation, there is a very real danger for quickly spreading, extremely explosive fires. All outdoor burning should be avoided.

Iowa Board suspends license of Bluffs Chiropractor

News

March 27th, 2012 by Ric Hanson

The Iowa Board of Chiropractic Medicine last week, ordered the license of a chiropractor in Council Bluffs to be suspended for an indefinite period of time. The order came down March 22nd, against Deanne J. Rogge, who works at Broadway Chiropractic, in Council Bluffs. Rogge was ordered by the Board to surrender her original license because it received a “Certificate of Non-Compliance” from the Iowa Department of Revenue’s Centralized Collection Unit (CCU).

If a licensed professional in the State of Iowa owes at least $1,000 in debt, the CCU can request that the persons professional license be suspended, revoked, denied insurance, or denied renewal. The debt may include delinquent court fines, unpaid taxes, or debt owed to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

A person whose license has been suspended or revoked is prohibited from practicing in the state of Iowa. The Chiropractic Board had issued a warning to Rogge that it would suspend her license within 30-days, on January 20th, unless she complied with the CCU’s request for payment.

2 Injured in Pottawattamie County crash Monday

News

March 27th, 2012 by Ric Hanson

The Iowa State Patrol says a distracted driver caused a rear-end collision that sent two people to the hospital Monday evening, in Pottawattamie County. Officials say a 2001 Honda Civic driven by 30-year Jeffrey Vana, of Logan, was stopped in the outside lane of  northbound Interstate 29 due to a previous accident, when his car was rear-ended by a 2004 Chevy Impala. The driver of the Impala, 26-year old Teddy E. Mahoney, of Onawa, was distracted by a bag in the passenger compartment of his vehicle, just before the collision occurred.

The Patrol says following the collision, both cars ended-up in the east ditch. Even though they were wearing their seat belts, both drivers were injured in the crash, with Vana being transported by Crescent Rescue to Mercy Hospital, in Council Bluffs. The accident happened at around 5:50-p.m., at the 67.65-mile marker, or about two-miles north of the Honey Creek exit.
