ST. LOUIS (AP) – Gymnastics might just have its next big rivalry after Gabby Douglas, of West Des Moines, pulled off something of an upset at the first night of the U.S. gymnastics championships, tying Jordyn Wieber atop the standings Friday night. The two have 60.650 points, 0.45 ahead of Aly Raisman. The finals are Sunday afternoon.
Wieber is the world champ and heavy favorite for the London Olympics, having lost only one all-around competition since the start of the 2008 season. But Douglas, a native of Virginia, has been rising fast, and she showed she just might have the goods to give the Americans another 1-2 punch like they had four years ago in Beijing with Nastia Liukin and Shawn Johnson. Liukin has some work to do to make her second Olympic squad after a shaky outing on uneven bars.
ST. LOUIS (AP) – Josh Tomlin scattered eight hits over seven innings, Johnny Damon hit a two-run homer and the Cleveland Indians beat St. Louis 6-2 Friday night to send the Cardinals to their seventh loss in 10 games. Tomlin (3-3) pitched shutout ball into the seventh, when he allowed a two-run single to pinch-hitter Matt Adams. He threw just 76 pitches, improving to 4-0 in interleague play. Jake Westbrook (4-6) gave up four runs – three earned – and eight hits in six innings. He struck out seven and walked one. Michael Brantley extended his hitting streak to 16 games for the Indians, who have won three of four.

Frank was subsequently found to allegedly be in possession of drug paraphernalia. He was cited for Possession of the paraphernalia, failure to have proof of insurance, and speeding. He was then released, at the scene of the traffic stop.
An open house will take place Saturday, June 23rd, for the new Montgomery County Law Enforcement Center, located at 100 West Coolbaugh Street, in Red Oak.
The event will take place from 2- until 4-p.m., and is sponsored by the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors. Residents and interested persons will be allowed to tour the LEC and speak with the Supervisors and office staff during their visit. In the mean time, the finishing touches are being applied to the brand new facility, which is replacing one that is more than a century old. The project is expected to be completed finished by sometime next month. Montgomery County’s voters made the facility possible, when they approved a $5.675-million bond issue in August of 2010.
