PERRY, Iowa (AP) — Authorities are looking for a man suspected in the attempted abduction of three girls on the west side of Perry. Perry police say the man stopped his car about 8 p.m. Friday and asked the girls, ages 8 and 9, for directions to a convenience store. He then tried to get the girls into the car, asking for them to show him the way. Police say that when the girls refused, the man made a lewd comment and pointed at his crotch. The girls ran to a neighbor’s house.
Caitlyn Stroud of Corning fought through injuries to win the 100 Meter Dash and the 200 Meter Dash State Titles in Class 1A Girls competition at Drake Stadium in Des Moines. Stroud ran a time of 12.75 to win the 100 Meter dash then promptly went to the infield to put a boot back on her left foot.
Stroud followed up that gutty performance with another great run to win the 200 Meter Dash with a time of 22.16. Immediately after winning the race Stroud went to her knees in obvious pain and holding the small of her back. She walked off under her own power fine and appeared to be recovering well but it was a pretty gutty performance for Stroud in both races.
Nick Pittmon of East Mills was the State Champion in the 100 Meter Dash in Class 1A on Saturday at Drake Stadium. Pittmon, a Junior, ran a time of 11.38 to win the event. Adair-Casey Sophomore Clayton Plowman also finished 5th in the event.
Pittmon later went on to finish 2nd in the 200 Meter Dash Finals with a time of 22.81.
Also Harlan’s Austin Hess won the 110 Meter Hurdles in Class 3A with a time of 14.74. The Junior beat the second place finisher by nearly .3 of a second.
Senior Cade Cleaveland of the Riverside Bulldogs won a State Title in the 800 Meter Run in Boys Class 1A action on Saturday morning at Drake Stadium. Cleaveland won the second heat and took the title with a time of 1:56.56.
Cleaveland said he felt it was a great season for Riverside qualifying some events for the state meet and was a great feeling to win for his school.
Griswold Tiger Rebekah Topham earn a second State Title on Saturday morning at Drake Stadium in Des Moines. Topham won a tight race down the backstretch of the 800 Meter Run in Class 1A to edge out Jasmine Staebler of Clayton-Ridge. Topham ran a time of 2:14.79 for the win, Staebler’s time was 2:14.91.
With the win Topham also helped the Tigers push closer to a team championship in 1A as they are in the top spot with 40 team points after that race. The Tigers have the 1500 Meter Run with both Topham and Alyx Flippen running. The Tigers have a great shot at the title if Topham and Flippen run as well as expected in the 1500 Meter Run. West Hancock appears to be the biggest threat to catch Griswold and the have 26 points currently and three events left.

ARTHUR MASUR, 82, of Harlan, died on Thursday, May 17 at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan. Mass of Christian Burial for ARTHUR MASUR will be held on Monday, May 21 at 10:30 AM at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Harlan. Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan has the arrangements.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 21 from 9:30 until 10:15 prior to the service at the funeral home. A rosary will also be held that day at 9:45 at the funeral home.
Burial will be at St. Patrick Cemetery in Walnut.
