Cubs activate Marmol, send Dolis to minors

Sports

May 28th, 2012 by Ric Hanson

CHICAGO (AP) — The Cubs have activated reliever Carlos Marmol from the 15-day disabled list and optioned Rafael Dolis to Triple-A Iowa. Manager Dale Sveum says Marmol will be used in a setup role and not as the closer, a job he lost to Dolis this month. Marmol then went on the DL because of a strained right hamstring on May 12. He was 0-1 with a 6.35 ERA in 15 appearances this season and had two blown saves in four chances before Monday’s game against San Diego. Dolis wasn’t much better with a 2-4 record, 5.68 ERA and four saves in six chances.

Regulators plan public meeting on Neb. nuke plant

News

May 28th, 2012 by Ric Hanson

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) – The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will hold another public meeting about the Omaha Public Power District’s Fort Calhoun nuclear plant this week. The event on Thursday is designed to keep the public informed about oversight of the nuclear plant 20 miles north of Omaha. The open house will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Doubletree Hotel in Omaha.  The nuclear plant has been shut down since April 2011. Initially it shut down for refueling maintenance, but flooding along the Missouri River and a series of safety violations forced it to stay closed.  OPPD officials say they hope to restart Fort Calhoun in September. The utility is inspecting the plant and working to satisfy federal regulators’ concerns.
