DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Military officials say fighter jets intercepted two small planes during President Barack Obama’s visit to Des Moines last week for violating the temporary flight restricted area. The Des Moines Register reports both planes were escorted to nearby airfields during Obama’s visit on Aug. 13. WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — Authorities in Waterloo say the mother of one of two Iowa cousins missing for more than a month was taken to a hospital after police found her unresponsive at a relative’s home. The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier (http://bit.ly/SOdkkJ) cites a police report that says 34-year-old Misty Morrissey was taken Monday to Allen Hospital. Morrissey is the mother of 10-year-old Lyric Cook, who was reported missing last month along with her cousin, 9-year-old Elizabeth Collins.
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — A lawyer says the son of Peregrine Financial CEO Russ Wasendorf Sr. is not a target of a federal investigation and doesn’t expect to be charged. The lawyer says Russ Wasendorf Jr. wasn’t involved with the finances of the company and feels betrayed by his father, who has been indicted in connection with a massive fraud scheme.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A man accused of firebombing a Des Moines apartment complex last year has pleaded guilty and faces up to 20 years in prison. Prosecutors say Robert Bell helped two other suspects use Molotov cocktails to damage the Deer Ridge Apartments in an attempt to cover up a burglary.
