The U-S Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa said Monday, a Douglas County, NE., man was sentenced Friday to one and a-half years in prison for failing to register with the sex offender registry. United States District Court Chief Judge James E. Gritzner handed down the 18-month prison sentence to 42-year old Richard Elliot Hansen. On May 3rd, 2012, Hansen entered a guilty plea to failing to register with the Pottawattamie County, Sheriff’s Office, as required when he began employment in Council Bluffs. A Judge in Pottawattamie County, Friday, sentenced a Council Bluffs man to more than three and one-half years in prison, for being a felon in possession of a firearm. The U-S Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa said Monday evening, that the sentence was handed down against 39-year old Lawrence Anthony Cipolla, from Chief United States District Court Judge James E. Chiefs’ Crennel sticks with Cassel at quarterback

Sports

October 1st, 2012 by Ric Hanson

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Romeo Crennel is sticking with Matt Cassel for now. The Chiefs coach reiterated his stance Monday that Cassel will be the Kansas City Chiefs’ starting quarterback when the Baltimore Ravens visit Arrowhead Stadium next Sunday. Crennel made the declaration unprompted in the minutes after Cassel threw three interceptions and the Chiefs turned the ball over six times in a 37-20 loss to the Chargers over the weekend. Cassel has thrown seven picks and lost three fumbles through four games this season, and many fans are starting to call for Brady Quinn to get a shot at the job. Quinn hasn’t started a game since 2009 with Cleveland.

Iowa State seeking improved QB play

Sports

October 1st, 2012 by Ric Hanson

AMES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa State needs to pump some juice into its offense, and the Cyclones need to do it quickly. That doesn’t mean coach Paul Rhoads is about to change quarterbacks, but it’s a fact of life in the freewheeling Big 12 Conference that a team can’t survive without a productive offense. Iowa State stalled repeatedly in a 24-13 loss to Texas Tech last Saturday. Quarterback Steele Jantz passed for only 73 yards while committing four turnovers, reverting to the form that got him benched last year. Rhoads says Jantz wasn’t the only problem with the offense. He says he’ll watch Jantz and backup Jared Barnett closely in practice before deciding on a starter for Saturday’s game at No. 15 TCU.
