Yellow caution tape outside NFL shooter’s NY home

WEST BABYLON, N.Y. (AP) – Family members have put yellow caution tape across the front of the Long Island house where Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher grew up.  Four signs hanging from the tape on Monday said: “Private property. No trespassing.”  Some relatives and friends paused to look at a shrine that has been in front of the West Babylon, N.Y., house since Saturday.

It includes his football jerseys from high school, college and the NFL. His high school varsity jacket is also there, along with trophies, photos and balloons.  Investigators in Kansas City continue to search for a motive to help explain why Belcher killed his girlfriend and then himself on Saturday.

MARGARET E. (JANE) MOOR, 90, of Guthrie Center, died Sun., Dec. 2nd, at the Panora Nursing and Rehab Center in Panora. Funeral services for MARGARET MOOR will be held 10:30-a.m. Thu., Dec. 6th, at the 1st United Methodist Church in Guthrie Center. Twigg Funeral Home in Guthrie Center has the arrangements.

Friends may call at the 1st United Methodist Church in Guthrie Center, one-hour prior to the service on Thursday.

Burial will be in the Union Cemetery at Guthrie Center.

Midwest economic index rises slightly

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) – A monthly economic index report suggests an economic slump will continue over the next three to six months for nine Midwest and Plains states. The Mid-America Business Conditions index rose slightly in November to a weak 48.0 from 46.5 in October. The figure was 50.4 in September.

The survey of business leaders and supply managers uses a collection of indexes ranging from zero to 100. Survey organizers say any score above 50 suggests growth while a score below 50 suggests decline for that factor.

Creighton University economist Ernie Goss oversees the survey, and he says it is tracking “economic weakness, particularly for nondurable-goods producers.”  The survey covers Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma and South Dakota.

DANIEL LEE WEIHS, 50, of Walnut, died Sat., Dec. 1st, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic. Memorial services for DANIEL WEIHS will be held 10:30-a.m. Fri., Dec. 7th, at the Walnut American Legion Hall in Walnut. Pauley-Jones Funeral Home in Avoca has the arrangements.

Visitation at the funeral home is from 8am-to 8pm Thu., Dec. 6th, with the family present to greet friends from 5-to 7-pm.

Inurnment at the Brighton Cemetery in Marne will be held at a later date.

DANIEL WEIHS is survived by:

His wife – Amy Weihs, of Walnut.

His son – Josh (Kayla) Weihs, of Panama.

His daughters – Katie Jo Weihs & boyfriend Christian Holzapfel, and Amy Marie Sandbothe & boyfriend Josh Thomas, all of Walnut.

His sister – Susan Eva Marie Weihs & special friend Sara Ferrell, of Kansas City, MO.

His brothers – Douglas Weihs and girlfriend Becky Anderson, of Manson; Dennis, Jeffrey and Joseph Weihs, all of Marne, and John (Vickie) Weihs, of Walnut.

and 4 grandchildren.
