Missouri State tops Drake 78-72

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — Anthony Downing scored 26 points to lead Missouri State to a 78-72 victory over Drake on Sunday. Keith Pickens added 19 points and seven rebounds for the Bears (6-15, 4-5 Missouri Valley), who completed the regular-season sweep of the Bulldogs. Missouri State also won 77-65 at Des Moines, Iowa on Jan. 5.

Marcus Marshall scored 12 points for Missouri State. The Bears, who shot 56 percent in the game, trailed by 10 early in the second half but took the lead for good at 58-57 on Downing’s basket with 6:52 to play. Ben Simons led Drake (9-11, 3-6) with 19 points. Micah Mason scored 17 and Seth VanDeest added 12 points for the Bulldogs, who were coming off a 74-69 home win over No. 17 Creighton on Wednesday. The Bears are 21-1 all-time against Drake in Springfield.

Red Oak man arrested on assault & other charges, Saturday

Police in Red Oak say a local man was arrested Saturday evening on four charges. 22-year-old Shane Michael Murley of Red Oak , was taken into custody on charges that include: Serious domestic assault, child endangerment, simple assault, and obstruction of emergency communication. Murley was being held without bond, in the Montgomery County Jail

Stabbing in Stuart leads to 3 arrests Saturday

Officials with the Stuart Police Department report a fight Saturday morning led to serious injuries to one person, two arrests and the recovery of stolen weapons. Authorities report one man was stabbed while another man was intentionally covered in gasoline and nearly set on fire by another male subject.A stolen handgun was also recovered nearby. All suspects have been identified and one of two is in custody, while other persons face charges related to the fight.

Two other adults who were present at the fight were arrested for charges connected to a home burglary in Stuart on Friday, January 25th. Officials says Stuart Police officers conducted search warrants at residences in Stuart, rural Adair, and Earlham. Stolen property was recovered as well as six stolen rifles and two stolen handguns. Several of the firearms, including an “SKS” rifle were recovered by Stuart Officers at a residence in Earlham.

A male at the Earlham residence was arrested for various charges and several other suspects have been identified and face charges related to the burglary case. The Police report did not mention the names of the suspects or victims.

CAROL HAGEDORN, 72,of Manning, died unexpectedly Sat., Jan. 26th, at home in Manning. Funeral services for CAROL HAGEDORN will be held 10:30-a.m. Wed., Jan. 30th, at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. Ohde Funeral Home in Manning has the arrangements.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 5-p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 39th.

Burial will be in the Manning Cemetery.

Her husband – Robert Hagedorn, of Manning.

Her sons – Jeff (Marcia) Hagedorn, of Roland; Jon Hagedorn, of Urbandale.

Her daughters – Julie Hagedorn, of Des Moines, & Jackie Hagedorn, of Manning.

Her sister – Barbara (Larry) Horky, of Sioux City.

6 grandchildren, her in-laws, other relatives and friends.

HAROLD C. JOHNSON, 92, of Atlantic (& formerly of Lewis), died Sun., Jan. 27th, at the Heritage House in Atlantic. Celebration of Life services for HAROLD JOHNSON will be held 11-a.m. Tue., Jan. 29th, at the Lewis United Congregational Methodist Church in Lewis. Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic has the arrangements.

Visitation is open at the funeral home from 8-a.m. to 5-p.m. Monday, prior to the family meeting with friends from 5-to 7-p.m.

Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Lewis immediately prior to the Celebration of Life service.

HAROLD C. JOHNSON is survived by:

His wife – Marjorie.

His daughters – Linda (Tony) Finnerty, of Burnsville, MN; Barbara Bakhit, of Omaha, NE; Kathy (Rich) Govig, of Lewis; and, Beth (Randy) Zimmerman, of Indianola.

Woman injured in car-vs-deer accident Saturday evening

The Adams Count Sheriff’s Department reports the driver of a 2011 Ford Feista was injured Saturday evening, when her vehicle collided with a deer. Authorities say Brenda Doyon was traveling west on Highway 34 at around 6-p.m., when the collision occurred. After the left front corner of the car hit the deer, the animal slid up into the windshield. Doyan was transported to the Alegent Health Medical Center in Corning, for treatment of undisclosed injuries.

2 injured during crash in Adams County Saturday night

Two people, including a teenager from Lenox, were injured during a single-vehicle crash Saturday night on the Adams/Taylor County line. According to the Adams County Sheriff’s Department, deputies were called to the scene on Adams-Taylor Street at around 9:05-p.m.  Upon arrival, they determined a vehicle driven by 16-year old Taylor Jo Foster, of Lenox, had entered the north ditch after being over-corrected. The teen’s actions caused the 2004 Chevy Tracker to overturn. Foster was ejected from the car as it rolled. She and an unidentified passenger in the car were transported from the scene by ambulance. The extent of their injuries was unclear early this (Sunday) morning.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by a Corning Ambulance crew, the Lenox Fire Department, Taylor County Sheriff’s Office, Lenx EMS and Lenox Police Department.
