Shelby County Hotel-Motel tax matters to be discussed Tuesday

News

February 18th, 2013 by Ric Hanson

Matters pertaining to the Hotel-Motel tax in Shelby County will be heard before a meeting of the Shelby County Board of Supervisor’s, Tuesday.  The Supervisors and Harlan City Officials have received the Hotel/Motel Tax money from the Shelby County Chamber, which forwarded the funds to the new Hotel/Motel Tax Fiscal Agent, the Shelby County Auditor, last Wednesday. That information, however, was received five-days past the deadline set by the Shelby County Supervisors.

A sticking point with regard to the tax money, is the 3rd quarter administration fee to the Chamber. The Shelby County Chamber has submitted a bill to the Auditor for the 20% administration fee for 2012 3rd quarter dollars. Last Tuesday, the Shelby County Supervisors held a meeting and told the public the two entities’ lawyers were getting together to hammer out all the details. Tomorrow (Tuesday), the Supervisors will hold another regularly schedule board meeting. During the session, the Board will be make appointments to the Hotel/Motel Tax Committee, give a fund update, and hire an audit firm to expand the analysis of Shelby County Chamber’s management of the Hotel/Motel Tax funds, to include the time frame from September 30th, 2012 through February 14th, 2013.

The Shelby County Board of Supervisors meeting begins at 9-am on Tuesday in their Chambers at the Shelby County Courthouse.
