Shelby County Fire Danger “Low” this week

The Shelby County Emergency Management Office has given another update on the Fire Danger warning signs in the county. The signs were at the “Moderate” category last week. However, with the moisture received in the area over the past few days, the signs are now at the “Low” Category. The next update from the Shelby County EMA will be on Thursday.

DEANNA EDWARDS, 63, of Perry died Thursday, April 11th at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Memorial services for DEANNA EDWARDS will be held on Tuesday, April 16th at 1:30 pm at Carris Family Funeral Home in Perry.

Visitation will be Monday from 1:00 to 8:00 pm with family present from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Carris Family
Funeral Home.

Memorials may be given to family and can be left at the Funeral Home.

Griswold’s Topham Shines at Sioux City Relays

Griswold runner Rebekah Topham had a solid Saturday at the Sioux City Relays.  Topham won a pair of events.  She took the title in the 800 meters with a time of 2:23.08.  Her teammate, Jordyn Sindt placed third in that event.  Topham also won the 1500 meters with a time of 4:57.84.

Teen injured in Woodbury County ATV mishap

Officials with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources say a 13-year-old Sergeant Bluff girl was injured Sunday afternoon after falling from an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) on a public wildlife area southwest of Sergeant Bluff, in Woodbury County.

Jayden Vanwyk was a passenger on an ATV being operated by her brother, 17-year old Tanner Vanwyk, when she fell off and broke her leg. The incident occurred on the Weedland Access Area shortly before 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Both of the riders were wearing helmets at the time of the mishap.

Jayden Vanwyk was transported by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City. The incident remains under investigation by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
