Members of the Midwest Regional Dive Team, who had been called to the scene of a possible drowning in Monona County, had their mission cancelled this (Thursday) morning, as they were near the scene. Montgomery County Emergency Management Director Brian Hamman said earlier, that the team was enroute to the Lewis and Clark State Park in Monona County near Onawa, to assist authorities with a dive recovery effort at Blue Lake.
Officials said Wednesday that a man from Onawa was swimming with others when he went under water and never resurfaced. Search teams are also using cadaver dogs and a helicopter to assist in the search, which was expected to have resumed this morning.
