KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – Everything that John Dorsey has done to mold the Kansas City Chiefs since becoming their general manager in January has been influenced by a career spent with the Green Bay Packers. He’ll get a chance to catch up with old friends Thursday night.

Dorsey played for the Packers in the 1980s before rising up the scouting ranks, eventually becoming director of football operations. He was hired as the Chiefs’ GM in January. Now, Dorsey will be using a preseason game against the Packers to make some final roster evaluations ahead of Saturday’s deadline to reach the 53-player limit. The Packers likewise have several jobs still up for grabs ahead of their regular-season opener.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) – The University of Iowa is taking a number of precautions to combat the excessive heat expected for Saturday’s football opener against Northern Illinois. The Hawkeyes say they’ll have cooling stations available in every corner of Kinnick Stadium, with misting stations and cold towels available.  The school will also allow fans to bring in multiple sealed bottles of water – and it has cut the price of bottled water for sale inside Kinnick to $2.

Carver-Hawkeye Arena, the Recreation Building and the Field House will also be open at 8 a.m. for fans seeking relief from the heat. The Iowa Department of Health is warning those with pre-existing medical conditions to watch or listen to the game from home, with a high of 95 degrees expected Saturday in Iowa City.
