THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR PORTIONS OF CENTRAL AND WESTERN IOWA.

TODAY AND TONIGHT…CHANCES OF THUNDERSTORMS ARE FORECAST THROUGH TONIGHT. AN ISOLATED  SEVERE THUNDERSTORM IS POSSIBLE THIS AFTERNOON WITH LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING WINDS THE MAIN THREAT.

MONDAY THROUGH SATURDAY…SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS ARE POSSIBLE MONDAY AFTER NON AND EVENING. WIDESPREAD SEVERE WEATHER IS NOT ANTICIPATED…HOWEVER AN ISOLATED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM MAYBE POSSIBLE. THUNDERSTORMS CHANCES RETURN BY FRIDAY BUT THE SEVERE PROBABILITY REMAINS LOW AT THIS TIME.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Edinson Volquez was bailed out by his bullpen and earned the victory in San Diego’s 5-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday night. Nick Vincent, Dale Thayer, Luke Gregorson and Huston Street worked an inning apiece after Volquez (7-8) faded at the end of a five-inning outing. Street was perfect in the ninth for his 16th save in 17 chances after Carlos Quentin’s RBI double off Trevor Rosenthal in the ninth put the Padres up by two runs.

Lance Lynn (11-5) lost for the fourth time in five starts, allowing four runs in five innings. Allen Craig had a two-run single and 29-year-old rookie Brock Peterson had an RBI groundout in his first major league at-bat after getting called up to replace injured Matt Holliday.

Jedd Gyorko, Everth Cabrera and Nick Hundley added an RBI apiece for San Diego, which had lost 19 of 23.

DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) — A rally has been held in Davenport one week after a jury found George Zimmerman not guilty in the death of unarmed teen Trayvon Martin. The Reverend Al Sharpton’s National Action Network organized the “Justice for Trayvon” rallies yesterday outside federal buildings in 100-plus cities, including Davenport. The rallies are intended to press for civil rights charges against Zimmerman.

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) — The Iowa Supreme Court has issued a public reprimand for a Council Bluffs magistrate who wore his judicial robes in advertisements for his services as a private attorney. The Council Bluff Nonpareil reports that the state’s high court issued the reprimand Friday against Judicial Magistrate Clarence Meldrum Junior. The Supreme Court noted that, beginning in 2009, Meldrum placed the advertisements in phone books.

WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — A Waterloo man has been charged with animal torture, accused putting a dog in a running a clothes dryer. The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports that 25-year-old Zachary Lee Smith was arrested Wednesday. If convicted, he faces up to two years in prison. Smith has been released on a $5,000 bond.

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (AP) — A vintage safe filled with $250,000 worth of silver bars and gold coins has been stolen, and the owner is offering a $5,000 cash reward for its return. The Marshalltown Times-Republican reports that the safe, which belongs to a Marshalltown woman in her 60s, was stolen on July 6th from an apartment garage.

Obituaries

DONNA WETZEL, 68, of Irwin, died Fri., July 19th, at her home. Funeral services for DONNA WETZEL will be held 11-a.m. Tue., July 23rd, at the Pauley-Jones Funeral Home in Harlan.

Visitation at the funeral home is from 2-until 9-pm Monday (7/22), with the family greeting friends from 6-to 8pm.

Burial will be in the Harlan Cemetery.

DONNA WETZEL is survived by:

Her husband – Harry Wetzel, of Irwin.

Her daughters – Rogene DeMarce, of Lees Center, NY, & Dawnene (Paul) Bowers, of Waukesha, WI.

Her sisters – Ann Holt and Susan (Terry) Morris, all of Harlan.

Her mother-in-law: Katherine Fiscus, of Harlan.

5 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.
