Police in Red Oak arrested 20-year-old Jesse Patrick Beaman, of Red Oak, early Monday morning. Beaman was taken into custody on warrants for 3rd degree criminal mischief, failure to appear for 1st degree arson, conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine, and two counts of forgery.
Beaman was arrested in the 200 block of East Nuckols Street just before 1:30-a.m. He was being held without bond in the Montgomery County Jail.

Two people were arrested over the weekend in Adams County. The Sheriff’s Department says 63-year old Gail Eugene Freihage, of Prescott, was arrested for Driving Under the Influence, just after 7-p.m. Saturday following a traffic stop. His bond was set at $1,000.
And, 18-year old Bryce Ludwig, of Melcher, was arrested following a traffic stop at around 7:30-p.m. Sunday. Ludwig was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant out of Marion County, and for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. His bond was set at $300.
DONALD “DON” PRALL, 83, a life-long Atlantic resident, died unexpectedly at his farm home south of Atlantic, on Sun., Dec. 1st. Funeral services for DON PRALL will be held 11-a.m. Thu., Dec. 5th, at the 1st United Methodist Church in Atlantic. Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic has the arrangements.

One person was injured during an accident Sunday night in southern Cass County. According to dispatch reports, a man was ejected from a vehicle during a crash which occurred just west of the intersection of Highway 71 (630th St.) and Tucson Road. The accident was reported at around 8:20-p.m.
The accident victim was said to be conscious and breathing when Griswold Rescue arrived on the scene. A medical helicopter was put on stand-by but then cancelled. No other details are available.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Legalizing medical marijuana will again be debated in the upcoming legislative session, though Iowa lawmakers have so far been loath to embrace a policy that is finding acceptance elsewhere. Democratic Senator Joe Bolkcom of Iowa City says he will pursue legislation seeking to legalize medical marijuana in 2014.
COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) — A man who fled police in western Iowa at speeds up to 100 miles per hour is recovering after being shot at by a state trooper in Council Bluffs. Iowa officials say the incident began around 7 a.m. yesterday when a state trooper tried to pull over a man driving a stolen vehicle. During the chase, the trooper’s car went into a ditch on U.S. Highway 275 northeast of Lake Manawa. The trooper was not hurt.
CORNING, Iowa (AP) — Two boys, ages 8 and 9 drowned Saturday evening in an Adams County pond. The Adams County Sheriff’s office says the boys fell through the ice. Their bodies were recovered under the ice at around 5:30-p.m.. The deaths happened near Prescott. The names of the victims weren’t released Sunday.
AMES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa won seven of 10 matches and beat host Iowa State 23-9 yesterday in their annual wrestling dual meet. The fourth-ranked Hawkeyes beat the rival Cyclones for the 10th straight time and claimed the Dan Gable Traveling Trophy for the fourth time in as many tries.
The first shotgun deer season in Iowa opens this coming Saturday (December 7th), while the bow hunting season that’s underway will continue through January 10th. D-N-R wildlife research supervisor, Willie Suchy says your odds of taking a deer get better in the shotgun season. “In 2012 the shotgun hunters had 35-40-percent success and archery was right around 25, in that neighborhood — so about 10-percent less,” Suchy says. While the chances are better you’ll get a deer with a shotgun,
Suchy says bow hunting has some of its own advantages. “Archery has allure from two aspects of it,” Suchy explains, “One is it’s a longer season so you’ve got more time to spend. You get to kind of specialize on working on deer.” And the second factor is some hunters believe the lower success rate of bow hunting tests their skill more. “I think it’s a challenge for some people,” Suchy says. Hunters have to prepare differently for each method.
“Hunting is a very safe activity overall and the dangers are a little bit different between hunting with a bow and hunting with a shotgun or firearm,” according to Suchy. “Bow hunters tend to sit in stands and trees and most of the injuries tend to occur in mishaps in stands where they fall.” The shotgun season sees more problems with hunters not using proper safety practices. “With firearms it’s more of making sure that you’re shooting at a clear target so you know where the bullet is going to go — so if you’re hunting in a group there’s nobody in danger,” Suchy says.
The first shotgun deer season runs through December 11th. The second shotgun season runs December 14th through the 22nd.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – Peyton Manning threw for 403 yards and five touchdowns, four of them to Eric Decker, and the Denver Broncos held off a furious rally to beat the Kansas City Chiefs 35-28 Sunday and seize control of the AFC West. Decker had eight catches for a career-high 174 yards for the Broncos (10-2), who moved a game clear of the Chiefs (9-3) in the division. With four games left, Denver also holds the tiebreaker by virtue of two wins over Kansas City in the last three weeks.
Jamaal Charles had 93 yards rushing for the Chiefs, and capped a 17-play drive with a 1-yard touchdown run with 6:32 left in the game to close within a touchdown. After forcing a punt with 3:32 remaining, Kansas City used three long pass plays to move deep into Broncos territory. But Alex Smith’s pass to Dwayne Bowe in the end zone on fourth-and-4 with 1:45 left fell incomplete, allowing the Broncos to run out the clock.
Officials with the Adams County Sheriff’s Office say two boys, ages eight and nine, died Saturday after falling through the ice in a pond near Prescott. The accident at 1623 Vanilla Avenue was reported to 9-1-1 just after 5:30-p.m., Saturday.
Sheriff’s Deputies along with Fire and Rescue personnel were dispatched to the scene. The unidentified victims were located under the ice. They were flown by helicopter to a hospital.
