SIOUX CENTER, Iowa (AP) – A northwest Iowa baby sitter has saved seven children from a van that erupted into flames.  The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office says the incident occurred about 3:30 p.m. Friday about six miles southwest of Sioux Center.  Thirty-six-year-old Tara Dekkers was driving the 15-passenger van when she heard a sound like a backfire. She soon pulled over the van when it filled with smoke.

Dekkers quickly unloaded the children, who ranged in age from 1 to 7, before the van was engulfed. No injuries were reported.  The Sheriff’s Office says a mechanical failure caused the fire.
