FAMILY OUTDOOR EXPO SEPTEMBER 28, 29

DES MOINES – The Iowa Outdoor Expo for kids and families is scheduled for Sept. 28 – 29, at the west end of Waterworks Park, near the Izaak Walton League Lodge, 4343 George Flagg Parkway, in Des Moines.

 

The Expo is a way to introduce children and families to new and exciting ways to enjoy the outdoors with more than 50 free hands-on activities. Attendees may shoot, fish, canoe and see and touch wildlife while learning about outdoor recreation. 

 

In addition, author, illustrator and musician Doug Wood will be performing EarthSongs, EarthStories.

 

The Expo is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 28, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 29.  Admission and parking are free. A flier about the Iowa Outdoor Expo is available online at www.iowadnr.gov/expo.

 

Attendees can register to win prize packages valued between $200-$400 generously donated by JAX Outdoor Gear, Sportsman’s Warehouse, Fox 17, Seven Oaks Recreation, Van Wall Powersports, Outdoors with Outdoors Dan, Scheels and Climb Iowa.

 

The Iowa Outdoor Expo is sponsored by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, the Des Moines chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America, Polk County Conservation Board, Prairie Meadows, Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation, Northern Lights Pizza, Friends of the NRA, Mid-Iowa Bass Masters and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.

 

The Expo is held in conjunction with National Hunting and Fishing Day.

Arrest in Stuart Last Weekend

On the night of Saturday, Sept. 21st the Stuart Police Department was dispatched to Ruby’s Pub in the 200 block of NE 2nd St. on reports of a man with a gun threatening individuals.

The suspect, Thomas Charles Oder,  was later spotted leaving the area in a maroon Ford F-150. Oder refused to stop for Officers and fled south on Stuart Rd at a high rate of speed. The vehicle eventually came to a stop at the intersection of 210th Street and Stuart Rd.

Thomas Charles Oder was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault, OWI, Felony Eluding, and Carrying Weapons.

Cardinals Clinch NL Central

ST. LOUIS (AP) – The St. Louis Cardinals clinched their first NL Central title in four years, beating the Chicago Cubs 7-0 Friday night behind the strong pitching of Lance Lynn and home runs by David Freese and Matt Holliday.

St. Louis (95-65) has won six of seven and is tied with Atlanta for the best record in the NL. They are assured of home-field advantage when the NL division series starts Thursday.

Adam Wainwright (18-9) was moved up to start Saturday, putting the St. Louis ace on track to start his team’s postseason opener against Cincinnati, Pittsburgh or the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Harassment Arrest in Lenox

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office received a report of someone making threatening phone calls and text messages on Friday, Sept. 27th.  After investigation deputies issued an arrest warrant for 27-year-old Ruth Leason Graham of Lenox after finding she was sending the messages stemming from a family dispute.  Graham was taken into custody at 601 South Walnut Street in Lenox for Harassment at 9:27pm Friday.  Graham was taken to the Adams County Jail and held on $300 bond.

Public Intox Bust in Red Oak

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of a Red Oak man on Friday, Sept. 27th at approximately 4:18pm for Public Intoxication.  Sheriff’s Officials arrested 54-year-old Robert Anthony Marron Jr. of Red Oak following an incident at L Avenue and Highway 34 East of Red Oak.  Marron was transported to the Montgomery County Jail and Held on $300 bond.

BERNARD KEITH COX SR., 91, of Tennant died Monday, Sept. 23rd at Prairie Meadows in Omaha.  Funeral services for BERNARD COX SR. will be held on Friday, Oct. 4th at 11:00am at the Altamont Baptist Church in Harlan.  Pauley-Jones Funeral Home in Harlan has the arrangements.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Oct. 3rd from 12:00pm-9:00pm at the funeral home with family greeting friends from 5:30pm-8:00pm.

Burial will be in the Shelby Cemetery.

Daughter: Bernadine Kay Ames of Caldwell, ID

Sons: Bert David Cox of Rushville, MO. Bernard Keith (Dawn) Cox Jr. of Omaha.
