Ramirez’s status uncertain for Dodgers in NLCS

Sports

October 13th, 2013 by admin

LOS ANGELES (AP) – The Los Angeles Dodgers’ offense is struggling, and they might have to face Adam Wainwright without their top hitter in Game 3 of the NL championship series.    Shortstop Hanley Ramirez had a CT scan on his left ribs Sunday, and the results were not yet available. He got hit by a pitch from Joe Kelly in the opener but stayed in to play all 13 innings of a 3-2 loss Friday.  Ramirez was a late scratch for Game 2, a 1-0 defeat that left the Dodgers trailing St. Louis 2-0 in the best-of-seven series.

Wainwright will start for the Cardinals on Monday night against rookie Hyun-Jin Ryu, who stumbled against Atlanta in losing his playoff debut in the division series.  Dodgers manager Don Mattingly says Ramirez keeps telling him he is going to play, but Mattingly said he’s got to be able to swing a bat in order to be in the starting lineup.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Jamaal Charles ran for two touchdowns, the Kansas City defense harassed Oakland quarterback Terrelle Pryor into throwing three second-half interceptions and the Chiefs remained unbeaten with a 24-7 victory over the Raiders on Sunday.

After winning just twice last season, Kansas City (6-0) continued the second-best start in franchise history. The Chiefs won their first nine games during the 2003 season.

The Chiefs piled up 10 sacks while ending a three-game skid to the Raiders (2-4), and a six-game losing streak against them at Arrowhead Stadium.

Pryor threw for 216 yards and a touchdown, but his interceptions proved costly.

The first led to Charles’ go-ahead touchdown run, the second led to Ryan Succop’s fourth-quarter field goal, and Husain Abdullah returned the last one for a touchdown to seal the win.

ST. LOUIS (AP) – Lance Lynn will start Game 4 of the NL championship series for the St. Louis Cardinals, perhaps strengthening his case when he earned the win in Game 1.

Rookie 15-game winner Shelby Miller had also been under consideration. Miller warmed up early in Game 1 and manager Mike Matheny said Saturday he’d be available in the bullpen in Game 2.

Lynn worked the last two innings of the Cardinals’ 3-2, 13-inning victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers. He took the loss in Game 2 of the NL division series against the Pittsburgh and has failed pitch five innings in any of his three career postseason starts the last two seasons.
