VIOLET “Vi” CLEMSEN, 88, of Carroll (& formerly of Audubon), died Fri., Jan. 24th, at Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids. Funeral services for “Vi” Clemsen will be held 10:30-a.m. Mon. Jan. 27th, at the Central Church of Christ in Carroll. Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon has the arrangements.

Friends may call at the funeral home, where the family visitation is from 2-to 5-pm on Sunday. (1/26).

Burial will be in the Arlington Heights Cemetery in Audubon.

VIOLET “Vi” CLEMSEN is survived by:

Her daughters – Vickie (Frank) Jorgensen, and Virlee (John) Sklenar, all of Carroll; and Vilinda (Doug) Gleason, of Audubon.

8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and her brother- and sisters-in law, other relatives and friends.

LESLIE “LUCKY” OSBORN, 70, of Atlantic, died Fri., Jan. 24th, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs. Funeral services for “LUCKY” OSBORN will be held 1:30-p.m. Thu., Jan. 30th, at the 1st Church of Christ in Atlantic. Roland Funeral Service in Atlantic has the arrangements.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday (1/26) from 1-to 4pm; Mon. & Tues. from 8am-to 5:30-pm, and on Wed. from 8am until the family meets with friends from 5-to 7-pm, Wednesday.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

His sons – D.J. Osborn, of Atlantic; Todd (Rhonda) Osborn, of Dallas Center.

His daughter – Marcey (Barry) Fickbohm, of Manhattan, KS.

His sister – Florence Bishop, of Tingely, IA.

(Update) Former Police Officer accidentally shoots himself in Glenwood

The Omaha World-Herald reports a man who accidentally shot himself while in his vehicle outside of an elementary school in Glenwood, was a former police officer. Douglas Trent Good was hit in the leg when his .9-mm weapon discharged sometime between 3:15-and 3:30-p.m., Friday, outside of West Elementary, in Glenwood. The vehicle was parked in a playground area as children were walking out of school, but no children were hurt. Good was waiting to pick up a child at the time the gun went off.

The Mills County Attorney told the paper Good called 9-1-1- and was taken to a hospital, but there is no report available on his condition. Good is a former Glenwood and Creston Police Officer, and has taught firearms training classes for people seeking permits to carry concealed weapons.He reportedly has a Master’s degree from Bellevue University.

Police are investigating why he had the weapon on school property and what caused it to fire.

Blizzard watch issued for parts of eastern Iowa

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Iowans are preparing for another blast of frigid and dangerous winter weather this weekend. The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory starting Saturday night in parts of eastern Iowa, and a blizzard watch for parts of northern and central Iowa into eastern Iowa on Sunday. Snow is expected in the northeast Saturday night. But by Sunday, strong winds of up to 50 mph are expected to create whiteout conditions in some areas.

Temperatures are also expected to plummet late Sunday, with lows coming in around 15-below zero in the northeast to near zero in southern Iowa. Wind chills of almost 50-below could hit some areas.

Evanston, IL (AP) — In early afternoon Top-25 basketball action Saturday, 10th-ranked Iowa beat Northwestern 76-50. Roy Devyn Marble scored 14 points for Iowa, which never trailed in the game. Gabriel Olaseni added 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Hawkeyes, who are 16-4. There are two games on the schedule featuring two ranked schools as third-ranked Michigan State is facing No. 21 Michigan, and 16th-ranked Iowa State is hosting No. 22 Kansas State.
