Oakland man dies in weekend accident

The victim of a two-vehicle crash east of Treynor Saturday afternoon has been identified. The Rieken-Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland says 31-year old Joshua Alan Fritz, of Oakland, died in the crash that injured three other people. Additional details about the crash have yet to be released, but authorities say two vehicles collided head-on about 12:45 p.m. on 360th Street, just south of Iowa Highway 92. The Jaws of Life had to be used to remove at least one of the victims. The injured were transported to hospitals in Omaha.

An announcement from the funeral home says Fritz graduated from Riverside High School with the class of 2000. Afterward, he enlisted in the National Guard where he served until 2008. While in the Guard he was stationed in Afghanistan from 2004-2005 during Operation Enduring Freedom. On February 14, 2008 he was married to Melissa Ann Miller. The couple has one son.

JOSHUA ALAN FRITZ, 31, of Oakland, died Saturday, Feb. 1st, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident west of Carson. Funeral services for JOSHUA FRITZ will be held 10:30-a.m. Sat., Feb. 8th, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Oakland. Rieken-Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland has the arrangements.

Visitation with the family will be held from 5-to 7-pm Fri., Feb. 7th, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Oakland.

A Memorial Fund has been set up at the Arbor Bank, in Oakland.

Burial will be in the Oaklawn Cemetery.

His wife Melissa and his son Clayton, both of Oakland.

His father Marshall Fritz of Omaha, NE & is mother Karen Fritz of Greenfield

His sister Jaime of Treynor and his brother Jeremy Fritz of Maryville, MO.

His grandparents, Willard and Marilyn Fritz of Oakland, and Dale and Anna Carlson of Hartford, SD.

His in-laws, other relatives and friends.

Bluffs convenience store robbed Sunday

Police in Council Bluffs report a convenience store was robbed Sunday morning. Officers responded to “The Filling Station” at 1531 2nd Avenue, where the clerk informed them a man wearing a bandana around his face came in and pointed a handgun at her while demanding money from the cash register.

The clerk complied and the suspect fled the store on foot with an undetermined amount of cash. Additional information concerning the suspect is not available. The Council Bluffs Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division is handling the incident investigation.

MILLS-MONTGOMERY-FREMONT AND PAGE COUNTIES: WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT FROM LATE MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH LATE TUESDAY NIGHT….

SNOW WILL MOVE NORTHEAST INTO THE AREA LATE MONDAY NIGHT…WITH THE HEAVIEST SNOW FALLING TUESDAY MORNING INTO TUESDAY AFTERNOON. THE SNOW WILL BEGIN TO DIMINISH FROM WEST TO EAST LATE TUESDAY NIGHT. SIGNIFICANT SNOW ACCUMULATIONS ARE EXPECTED. TOTAL SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS OF 5 TO 8 INCHES ARE LIKELY…WITH THE HEAVIEST AMOUNTS NEAR THE KANSAS BORDER.
